I'm so glad you posted this.
I've been stewing a bit and reading everything I can about the casting updates. (I read all three of the books last week so I'm in full HG mode.)
I haven't seen the Last Song because I'm anti-Miley, so I'm not really sure if I like or dislike this choice as Gale.
However....Laser as Peeta?!?!?!?!?!? He definitely needs to pull a Taylor Lautner and bulk it up. Peeta is hunky yet sensative. Tossing around 100 lb bags of flour, but able to work up a pastry masterpiece.
The interwebs are rallying for RDJ as Haymich and Kristen Chenoweth as Effie. I think Effie is darker than KC, but she's a fantastic actress so of course she could pull it off. I highly doubt they'll get Iron Man to sign on, but if they do...he'd be PERFECT! I heard rumors that Prim is going to be one of the tween queens that didn't get picked as Katniss....who knows.
I just pray, hope, wish that they don't do to HG what they did to Twilight...with a TERRIBLE screen adaptation and mediocre actors. These books were kick ass and I'm hoping the movies get somewhat close.
Oh yah!! Thank you for posting so that I could get this all out of my head...I don't know too many people irl that have read these books...DH and my brother are working on them now.

Kristin Chenoweth would be perfect as Effie! Omg, I can totally picture that.
Oddly, the character they picked to play Peeta is very close to how I pictured him.
So, who do you think would be good looking enough to play Finnick?
What?! No R-Patz as Gale???? Hahaha jk. I'm not so sure about Liam (I didn't see Last Song so I have no idea what his acting ability is like) but isn't Peta supposed to be blonde? Maybe I'm getting Peta and Finnick mixed up right now (it's late and I'm tired). I liked Josh in Terabithia so I think he'll do a good acting job. He definitely needs to pull a Taylor Lautner and bulk up.
ETA: I know Finnick is blonde but right now I'm fuzzy on Peta. He can always dye his hair.
RDJ=Robert Downey Jr. Someone suggested Hugh Laurie which I think would be a little more age appropriate for Haymitch. I would almost like to see some no-name actors take on some roles instead of big movie or tv stars.

I think Peeta is supposed to be blond or dirty blond...while Katniss and Gale are dark haired, olive complected and have those district 12 grey eyes....so, I think they are switching it all up with Jennifer and Liam.
I picture Finnick as classically tall, dark and handsome, but that probably won't be until the second movie...unless they introduce him as a mentor a bit earlier, but I doubt it.
I think there will be plenty of lesser known actors playing the supporting roles....it'd be fun to see some big names, but I'm sure the money and scheduling would make it difficult.
One of the things I'm wondering how'll they'll effectively portray in the movie is the relationship with Gale prior to the games....so that the triangle is set up good and ready. I fell in love with Peeta from the start, but still that triangle was good.
So, the first one is coming out in 2012? Do I see a HG movie gtg in our future?
