Stainless Steel Pans

My husband decided to cook eggs on our stainless steel pan and burnt the entire inside of the pan! I soaked it, tried to pick the burn and egg off with my nails and a nothing works. Got any ideas?

Re: Stainless Steel Pans

  • You could try putting water in the pan and boiling it. That helps to loosen stuck on stuff.

I'm going to go try that now!

  • If that doesn't work, get some Bar Keepers Friend cleanser. That's what I use on my All Clad when there is burnt on food. It makes it look brand new! And tell DH that next time he shouldn't put the heat so high....you should never go past the medium setting with SS unless you are bowling water.

It didn't work. Can I find that product at Target? DH is not exactly smart when it comes to cooking :)

  • Yes, you can get BKF at Target or anywhere you buy cleaning supplies. They also sell it at BB&B near the All Clad. Depending on the pan, it may not work, either. My girlfriend has the Emerilware SS pans and we could NOT get her frying pan clean when her DH burnt it. No matter what we did. She actually ended up returning it for All Clad.

  • A mild abbrasive like Barkeepers Friend (or baking soda) ought to do it.  I would soak and boil it again first, adding a bit of dish soap to the water.

The great thing about stainless steel is you can always resort to steel wool (brush with the grain).

  • Try some of the powder auto diswasher detergent. Sprinkle some in the pan add hot water, let it soak for a couple of hours and burned on stuff should come off easily. Unless it has whenever I tried it.

  • I agree with MrsLele, BKF is your best bet with SS pots and pans. I clean my SS pots and pans with dish soap first, then BKF as a finishing touch every time. They look bran new and help your SS last longer. If you can't find BKF for some reason, Cameo is the same stuff, may be easier to find? Just giving another option :)

My H has had issues with remembering to always spray non-stick cooking spray or use the olive oil sprayer so that things won't stick so badly. It took quite a while, but he finally started to remember recently and it makes cleaning them so much easier.

I imagined my life without my dogs once...it was the worst 30 seconds of my life.
  • Put water in the pan and some baking soda, bring to a boil for a few minutes. It should loosen. I've used this with cooked on egg, rice that was left in the pan overnight and is hopelessly stuck.. hth
