Picture Storage

I'm talking about prints - the ones from disposable cameras and the days of film. I have two large boxes full of loose pictures, some in albums.

What do you do with them? How do you store them?

I was thinking about just buying a bunch of those cheapo albums where you slide the photo in and call it a day. But then I need to find a place to store all the albums..

I need to get them organized and/or condensed. H and I are considering finishing the unfinished portion of the upstairs and turning it into a larger master bedroom. Right now that part is acting as an attic of sorts, so we both need to sort through our stuff and re-organize.

Re: Picture Storage

  • We're the keeper of all the family photos on my dad's side of the family since we bought my grandparents house and everything in it. So, I bought a bunch of photo boxes, separated them by family and store the boxes on a book case in my living room.

  • I keep mine in the acid free slide in albums.  That way I know they're not getting messed up.  My favorite one has these little wooden bars that each hold 50 pictures, and then all of the bars go into the railing and balance, so I can have like 500 pictures broken up into chunks and easily organized.

Do you have a link to this? I think I know what you're talking about, but I'm not sure.

  • Mine are all in albums. Needless to say, I really don't have a spot for these albums to live, but at least they're organized and safe!

I recently confiscated all of our family pictures from my mom's house. They were living in one huge box for the last 15 years, so I took it upon myself to organize them chronologically and put them into albums. These are the albums I got. They're good quality and really thin, so they don't take up a lot of space...but they hold a decent amount of pictures:

  • I have my prints in these:

They're from Michaels and also acid free. I love them. Even though there are 5 prints per page (and sometimes you have to flip them, which drives my OCD crazy), they're still really nice. They have scrapbook style pages in the respect that you can unscrew the spine and add more pages. I have 660 photos in one album (but that's about the extent of how many you can fit in it). They're about $25 a piece.

ETA: forgot to add about storage. I store the albums on our bookcase. I currently have 7 ablums on the shelf (each album has about 400-500 pictures in them, give or take). I'm currently scanning all of my old family pictures (like of my grandparents and such....ones not directly relevant to me) into the computer and storing them on my terabyte hard drive.
