So, I've been avoiding doing our taxes this year because I was worried we'd have to pay in (DH is self-employed, and we didn't have to pay quarterly taxes in 2010, but I didn't know if what I paid in was enough to cover us both). So we finally sat down tonight and did them. Thanks to a beautiful little tax change in 2010 allowing us to deduct costs of health insurance in 2010 only for the self-employed (and spouses), we're actually getting a refund! It won't be a big one, but it's better than paying! I am suddenly a happy girl! Sadly we won't be able to use that deduction in 2011 (since I have health insurance available now), but hopefully we won't need it due to my pay cut this year (awkward silver lining, eh?).
Anyone else have any happy surprises lately?
Re: Huge sigh of relief!
Well that is a nice surprise. I guess that's a silver lining to your insurance/salary issue.
My mundane surprise of the day is that the public library is now allowing two renewals on books rather than the previous one. It slightly helps me juggle a few books right now.
That's great Leigha! DH is going to do our taxes tonight, we've been avoiding them too. Hopefully having Ayden will give us a nice refund.
Steph-our library lets us renew things twice too which is awesome.
No happy surprises here. April has started out pretty crappy for me but things are looking up.
Sweet!! I finally submitted my taxes Monday. :-/ We owed $350 plus paid a decent chunk of change to TurboTax. Blech.
Happy surprise = my college bestie may be visiting me some weekend this month! She hasn't seen the house yet, so I'm super excited.

Mames, I can't believe you guys had to pay in! With a house and some time being a SAHW, I'm really surprised it went that way. I thought home ownership was helpful come tax season. Guess we may as well skip ahead to the kiddo part. Or try to get Rufus a SSN!
But yay for friends coming to see the house! That's exciting, especially since you've already done so much to make it your own!

Not so fast Mrs Eager to TTC! Texas has such high property taxes, it will definitely push you to itemizing on your taxes. Now whether you owe or not come April probably depends on your withholdings...
