anyone ever have a night like this?

Cass's bedtime is always between 7 and 7:30.  We have a whole bedtime routine and although she doesn't usually go out the second I close the door, it's usually within a few minutes.

Last night, she could not fall asleep!  She finally passed out at 11:00 pm, but up until then she was wide awake.  We tried everything and finally I just had to close the door and let her scream.  And she woke again at 3:00 am yelling the same phase over and over again, "I don't want to sleep in my bed".  I've never seen her like that and up until last night she's loved her bed.

There was no fever, she wasn't acting sick, just completely wired.  I did let her have three jelly beans at 6:30.  But, seriously?

I'm hoping it was just a one time thing and we're down early tonight.  I'm exhausted considering we start our day at 5:30 am around here for school.  Ugh.

Can anyone think of something I'm not?

Re: anyone ever have a night like this?

  • we haven't had "i don't want to sleep in my bed" but we have had nights were J decides that she's going to scream for hours instead of going to sleep. About a month ago, she did it for 3 or 4 days in a row =(

Is there anything new/different in her room? Has seen seen/heard anyone say something about beds recently? Even if you don't think she's paying attention, someone could have said something about being afraid of their room/bed, or monsters or animals or something under the bed. We have to check to see if J is "animal-free" before I leave her room at night. Sometimes the cat sneaks in and then J can't sleep b/c Kitty is trying to snuggle.

I'm sorry she had a rough night, hopefully tonight is better.

  • so sorry she had an off night.  We haven't had the not sleeping in her bed thing but she has at times stayed up until 9 (7 pm bedtime) wide awake.  This usually is when she takes a nap during the day.

But my friends daughter will do this almost nightly..go to bed at 8pm and still be up at 11pm.  She just sits there and chats in her bed to all her toys.

  • yea, that's delanie... minus telling us she doesn't want to sleep in her bed.  i doubt it was the jelly beans.

silly kids - hopefully tonight she's just as tired as you!!

  • My oldest went through that a few days in a row a couple of months ago.  Honestly, I think she was having nightmares.  She's 2, so trying to get her to explain what's wrong doesn't always make sense, but she said something about her bed "running around" and something inaudible (she was shrieking) about under it I think.

  • Tristan does this every night.  Bed time is 8:30, he's up every night until at least 10-10:30.  His pedi and his therapist have both said he just doesn't require as much sleep as most kids.  He still wakes up at his normal time and is never tired throughout the day.

Sounds like she's either going through a phase, or that perhaps she had a bad dream recently and she's afraid to go to bed?  At this age, there are so many things it could be.  Very frustrating!
