Moms would you taken advantage of this gift?

Good friends of ours are having their first baby this week (she's being induced tonight) We were thinking of getting them a gift certificate for a dinner out, and a babysitting coupon from us, so they can enjoy a night out when they want and not have to worry about baby sitting.

I don't want to assume that they would be comfortable leaving their baby with us (they know us well though, and know of my lack of baby experience:) They would totally trust us w/ their dog:) But we thought it'd be a fun gift and something a little different than an outfit etc...  We wouldn't care if they used the gift certicate w/o us baby sitting, but I would want them to take advantage of it...

Thoughts??

  • I would.

  • I'm more likely to give that as a gift than use it... I feel funny about taking people up on those things (not because I feel uncomfortable with someone watching the baby but because I don't like asking favors) but would without a doubt make someone else use it!

  • I'd love the GC for a dinner out, but I don't know if I'd take someone up on babysitting my LO. Only family members have watched Brody (other than our day care provider) and I'm picky about who I leave him with. (Clearly I don't have a choice about leaving him with Keith...hehe...)

That said, I still think it's a nice gesture of you guys. Just make sure they know it's not a package deal -- they can use the GC without using the coupon for baby-sitting.

  • I would take advantage of it... especially if I trusted someone enough to let them take care of my dog Smile Although, Amanda brings up a good point about letting them know it isn't a package deal that you really just want them to be able to enjoy a dinner out.

This.  Only family has ever watched Mariela and neither of us (Alexi nor I) wanted to leave her to go out on a date until she was closer to 3 months old.

Ditto this. I'm not saying I will never have friends watch Eli, but I wouldn't take friends up on that offer right away. That being said, it's still a very nice offer but I would make sure they know they can use the GC without the babysitting coupon.
