Have any of you seen the TV ad about not putting fertilizer and pesticides on your lawn as a home owner? It shows the chemicals washing from the grass and into lakes and rivers represented as rubber duckies.
I saw the ad and thought it was fantastic.
Then this morning I had a meeting and it turns out the group that I was meeting with was the group that put out the ad. The gov had the ad removed and asked what the science was behind it.
Um. A lot?!?!?! It doesn't take a scientist to figure out that if you put chemicals on your lawn and it rains that the water washes those chemicals into drains and into waterways.
I'm telling you...working for state government right now is veerrrrry interesting.
Re: Ducky Ad
Ohhhh. I take it back...kind of. Some of the people in the meeting were pulled early and I suspect so they could speak to the press about this. I guess they are saying that the gov does not have the authority to do so.

Link to the ad is there too.
I met this group a few years ago at a festival (may have been the Folk Festival in Bangor) and got a rubber duck to take home with me.
They also mention how it's not good to let dog poop "dissolve" in your yard-- although it's organic, it's a breeding ground for bacteria, worms, viruses, etc. and also contribute to the need for communities to put chemicals in the drinking water to decontaminate it. I never would have thought of that.
Anywho-- how can the gov have the ad removed on the basis of unsure science? I thought this was America??
Oh good lord.
But hey, at least we made national news for approving legislation to allow one-armed individuals to carry swtichblades. LePage should be approving it in the next few days...

Scoop the Poop campaigns-- they ran these campaigns when I was in college in Burlington VT and I learned a lot about it... it's crazy to think about but definitely something that needs more campaigning and public knowledge about. It makes me sad when it comes to this type of information being sensored
Sheesh. The federal government may be shutting down but at leat they're hard at work in the state house.
I just read the linked article headline to DH who said "that's stupid, that's why they put knobs on the blade" as he demonstrated easily opening his pocket knife one-handed. Ha!
that man needs to do something productive
if we took off every ad that lied - cable would be PBS
and that one isn't even lying
Seriously? WTF LePage. He's a tool.
