credit union

ok...maybe I'm dumb, but how do credit unions work?

..I could prly just google, but I thought I'd ask... :)

Re: credit union

  • I do not really know. I know my parents are members of it and when they got their new car they got a much lower interest rate than a bank would give them.

  • I don't really know either, but I know DH wants to start looking for one for us to join. I know you can get great interest rates!

  • Credit Unions are membership based, but the criteria varies by every single one.

I belong to a local credit union..the only requirement was what county you lived in. DH belongs to the Crayola credit union because his Dad works there and the account was started when he was young.

They are worth check out, and if they have a website, they should list what criteria you have to meet to become a member. Some have an annual fee...usually super cheap, like I pay $5/year to be a member at mine. But it's worth it to me because I make that back in interest. DH doesn't pay anything but has to have a minimum balance in his savings.

  • G has his savings account in a credit union and our credit cards are through the credit union. G would like to move all our checking to the credit union, but we are not right now. He just thinks credit unions are better then banks.

  • i don't really know the deal either, but I know they usually give much higher interest rates. dh wants to switch us to the one that's run through his company
