It started the season last night with 2 episodes on TLC. WDYT?
(Spoilers below)
I have to be honest. These women are hoarders. When they showed the one who has 7 kids, and she stored it all over her house...wow. And the one who has a BF living with her- do they really need like 20 bags of chips?! Those expire quickly!
I have been more aware of grocery sales, and trying to find deals lately though. Since my kitchen is so small, I have a spare BR closet I keep extra canned goods, and the canning I do every summer. If I can find a good deal on something we use that I could get almost free with a coupon, I do "buy" for me and my parents, and grandma. I have found ebay to be the cheapest and quickest with mailing multiples of coupons.
Re: Did anyone watch extreme couponing?
We watched one episode....the one with the crazy chick in purple who purposely wears clothes and makeup that she thinks will make people think she's got lots of money. That was also the same episode with the couple with 7 kids, and she's actually why we watched. She's the sister of a childhood friend of DH's.
I agree with you....this isn't normal. I think this is an indicator of OCD and hoarding. When you already have 40 boxes of cereal in your home, you don't need to buy more just because you have coupons that would allow you to get it for free. When you start stashing stockpiles of food and paper goods in every room of your house, that's a sign that there's a problem!
(Did you catch that it took the crazy purple lady two hours to check out?? And she spends six hours prepping for a single shopping trip.)
It's one thing to keep an eye out for good deals, and to try to match coupons with the sales to see if you can get something super cheap or even free. But when this basically becomes your full-time job.....yikes.

I coupon and love a good reality show, but these ladies were totally crazy.
I feel like they are totally taking advantage of the system - like the one lady who had to call in friends to check out for her to save $10/order. That's just insane.
Next season these women will all be on horders, because there is no need for 40 bags of chips and 77 bottles of mustard - EVER!
Six hours prepping?? TWO hours to check out?! Really? That's absurd.
I didn't see it, but I'd say they definitely have problems.
77 bottles of mustard? That is crazy! I love mustard and I do not even think I could use that much up before it expires.
Man I need to dvr that show sounds like I missed something good.
I totally agree with you! Some of that food has to go bad before they can use cause, cause none of them were the size of a house, so you know they aren't eating all that processed food themselves. Donate it to people who need it!
How could I forget about the mustard?! That was insane. Who needs all that mustard?
And, something I thought about while watching this...do they think about donating the items they get to shelters or food pantries?
eta* I saw you guys have the same thoughts on donating
The mustard thing really pissed me off.
I agree with everyone's comments. I'm all about couponing (DH is actually really into it and has managed to cut our monthly grocery budget by about $100), but those people were OCD and hoarders. And I agree - they should be donating that stuff.
