Extreme Couponing

Did anyone watch it yesterday? I haven't, but I've only seen clips, but WOW, what I've seen so far is intense. I used to do some couponing, but no where near what these people do.

Not exactly the healthiest way to live though...given what most coupons are for.

Re: Extreme Couponing

  • What channel is this on?  I'll have to watch it online, if it's available.

  • Um, I think it's either on TLC or Discovery. But I'm pretty sure its TLC. I only saw clips online, but dunno if they have full episodes
  • Its on TLC. I can see why its somewhat helpful but there are a lot of things fruits/veggies that aren't covered by coupons and I try to eat as much of them as possible.

I actually stopped coupon shopping because of this! Almost every coupon I got was for something unhealthy, so why bother?

  • I wanna know how on earth do they buy STEAK with coupons???  Did anyone ever get a single coupon ever for meat???  And no, those crazy people never buy produce - it's all packaged junk.  Hey, I love to use coupons and get sales, but not to this extent.  And even if it's free, do you really need 35 containers of Maalox in your house (like the girl last night)?????

Mandah - you pretty much read my mind by posting this - I was watching this with DH last night and he was so inspired that we signed up to coupons.com - so I mean, I'll save as much as I possibly can, but I certainly don't need a warehouse in my garage.  Nuts...

  • This is why the majority of coupons I use are for cleaning/personal supplies.  I use them a lot for things like soap, deoderant, razors/blades, paper products etc.  And occasionally a few food ones when I can find healthy coupons.

This is me exactly.  I think I tend to find more coupons for household/personal stuff than anything else.

  • I agree. The lady with the Maalox, all I could think was, "maybe if you ate a healthier, more well-rounded diet, you wouldn't need so much Maalox."  But I had to admire the woman who planned out all the family meals a month in advance - I'm lucky if I can get three days in advance figured out!  The show did inspire me to look for coupons for drugstore products and use my CVS reward dollars before they expire.

  • I watched this! I thought it was pretty amazing that they got so much for so little. But I definitely agree that most of what they are buying is junk, or things that are going to expire. You would have to have a family of 10 if you are going to buy things in such big quantities. But I do think non-edible things (toilet paper, paper towels, hand soap) would be nice to stock up on. I just think they buy A LOT of things they don't need because it is a good deal.

  • I used to work as a cashier at Stop & Shop and we had a family of extreme couponers. They would ONLY buy items if they had coupons for it. They would buy 20 toothbrushes or 10 bottles of soda or 15 cans of tuna and they would have the regular coupons, PLUS a double or triple coupon.

Every one in a while they would buy something like eggs or milk.

I just don't have the patience for couponing. We used to get the Sunday paper and I would clip coupons from there, but I don't even do that anymore. If I were to do it anymore it would only be for household items.

DH downloaded it for me last night so I'm going to watch it tonight hopefully. I just don't understand it. I mean, you buy a million of these products, but I wonder how people use everything before the expiration dates!!!
