I can't stop thinking about this

I'm going to try and not make this crazy-long. Bare with me.

We have this friend, T (DH's old neighbor). T is a man-child. He's about 25, still lives at home, no education, no job, doesn't care. He's also an asshat.

For about a year, until last Christmas, he was dating O, who is from Turkey and was here for a year with one of those nanny programs. She's funny and smart and I like her a lot. But, she went back to Turkey at the end of her program.

T went to Turkey a week, or maybe two weeks ago.

Today, O's facebook status says she's engaged.

Indifferent

Why the F would he propose when he has no means to support her while they figure out the visa thing? It's not a fast, or inexpensive process. And WHY THE F would she say yes?

Please god, let her be engaged to someone else.

The chances of him staying there with her (although I would like to hope for that) are small. He's not that type of guy.

Maybe she's not really aware of his financial situation? I'd like to think that she's a good person because you like her, but maybe she's just thinking of him as her ticket to the US? Who knows. People do weird stuff all the time.

As far as I can tell, she knows his deal. I mean, she's stayed with him at his parents' house. I thought that if you went through the fiance visa process, you had to prove that either they could support themselves, or that you could provide for them. He doesn't even provide for himself. And I don't think he has any idea of how long it takes and how much it costs. I've had friends go through the process, and even with both of them have good jobs, and the ability to get good jobs and stuff here, it was still a long process.

Maybe she thinks that he'll suddenly become responsible the minute he gets married?

I know that for the affidavit of support, he can get a cosigner. If his parents let him live at home and not have a job, maybe they are willing to cosign for him and foot the bill for filing all that paperwork.
