*Montana* (or anyone with swollen feet experience!)

Did you have super swollen feet and ankles when you were pregnant with L?

Just curious if you (or anyone else reading this!) knows of a good "tried & true" way to ease the swelling.  I forgot to ask my doctor at my last appointment and won't see her again for two weeks.

They say that salt intake really doesn't have a huge impact during pregnancy (which is good, because I love my salty food!).  And my blood pressure is totally normal, so thankfully it isn't associated with that.  It's just a minor annoyance.

  • I only know elevation and lots of water, but that's def not PG specific.  Wish I could be more helpful!  Oh yea.. and I know you're supposed to wear shoes that have room for the swelling so that they are never constricted.
  • Thanks Kearstin!  So the flip flops I've been wearing every day aren't so bad???  I suppose I should have something with SOME kind of support, huh?  Really, I've been working from home as much as possible, so I'm mostly barefoot all the time.

And, yeah, water is all I've really had since getting pregnant (other than a couple of glasses of milk, and a decaf iced latte...once).  I also have been trying to elevate them...even sleeping with my feet up on a wedge pillow.

    They're just so ugly...haha!

  • Whenever I have swelling, I take ibprofen and ice it...

However, I have no idea if ibprofen is okay while pregnant, so if you go that route be sure to check with your doctor first :)

  • I would love to see anyone's advice on this.  My sister just had a baby and two weeks later she is still swollen.  Her flip flops cut into her feet they are so swollen.  You have my sympathy!

  • I've heard soaking your feet in cold water for 15 minutes and then elevating them is supposed to help.  I've also heard that putting a couple cucumber slices on them helps...don't know how much truth that one holds lol but cucumbers are supposed to absorb some of the excess water which is causing your feet to swell.

  • Thanks for the advice, ladies!  I also was told compression socks (which I'm sure are super sexy) are helpful.  So I'm going to order a pair and see how they do.

Christie - that worries me if your sister is still swollen two weeks after the baby...yikes!  My flip flops have just recently started leaving indentions in my feet when I take them off...it is so not cute!

  • I am so late to this post.. Sorry!

Part of the joy of being pregnant (even for some time afterwards) is being swollen. It sucks! The best advice I got from my midwife was to spend as much as possible with my feet elevated and she did recommend compression stockings. Also laying on your left side may help some as well. Keep on eye on your BP too because  it can spike super quick. Mine was fine at a visit one day and then 2 days later is spiked and I was out on bedrest. Its crazy how your body changes from day to day especially as you get closer to the end.

Also I would avoid foods with a lot of salt. I saw a nutrionist while I was pregnant with L and she wanted me to avoid them. I never really asked why just smiled and said ok..lol

Take it easy! And rest a lot and drink lots of water!

  • Thanks Montana!

I've been taking my blood pressure, and it's totally normal, but I'll definitely keep an eye on it.  I didn't realize it could spike that quickly (that's really scary!).

I think I'm going to try the compression socks...I'm sure they will be incredibly attractive!
