Having my name screwed up or getting called by the wrong name is nothing new to me. I typically just ignore it.
But I just got an email from a client at work & what did they call me?
David.

What's the most ridiculous screw up of your name you've encountered?
Re: Well... That's a New One
I've gotten Brianna before. Really? where do you see a B in my name?
Oh, and Ri--na-non, which I'm pretty sure no one has ever named their child, ever
Tar-a annoys the sh!t out of me for you. Just FYI.
Well thank you. I'm so used to it now that it doesn't even bother me anymore.
This is why I won't be naming my kid any of the -ara names. On the phone, I have to say Tara with a T. Plus when someone calls out Tara or Sara or Cara, I can never tell if they're calling me or not. I always have to ask 'Did they say Tara or Sara?"
I cannot even begin to tell you how many people think I'm a guy based on email.
I don't get many people misspelling my name. Mostly it's just mispronounced. I get a lot of "Leia" like princess leia. I also have a lot of people call me "Lee", even people who have heard my name said correctly many times.
The other name I get called ALL the time is Caley. Basically because there is a girl I work with - we're the same age, height, weight, we started within 2 weeks of each other, and our cubicles are adjacent. People are always getting us mixed up.

Does that ever make you wish your parents had given you a more feminine name? Would it affect what you would name your child? Boy names for girls are getting pretty popular. Not being snarky just curious.
My Ovulation Chart
Interesting question.
When I was younger, I did. I wanted a girly girl name like Stacy or Britney or something along those lines. But as I got older & became more confident in myself, it quit bothering me.
A major turning point in my feelings regarding my name was when my brother & his ex started dating. She told me that the first thing he told her about me was that I had the prettiest name. Granted, he was probably trying to get in her pants by seemingly like this charming family guy, but still. It was sweet.
As far as our children go, I do prefer more gender traditional names. I'm not sure if its just my taste or if my own experiences with having a gender-neutral name has affected that, so who knows *shrugs*
Oh and by the way, the girl who called me "David" just wrote me a really nice apology email about the mix up. She's new at that company apparently.
I definitely know a handful of Christy/Christies whose real names are Christina.
The girl I'm replacing has a name one letter off from mine. So when her clients (now my clients) call and I answer the phone, "This is Kate" and they always just say, "Hey Katie! Blah blah blah..." So getting in there that I'm not Katie and I'm their new AM is really awkward.
Also someone responded to my email one time (clearly with my name in the signature) with "Thanks Samantha!"
WTF?

Well yeah, I guess it coud be. That's funny. I went to school with 4 and that was their full name, but every sinlge Chrissy was short for Christina.
-ara names were on our no list too.
I've gotten Judy. And maybe Janie, but that was only once I think when the person who was calling was not listening when I answered the phone.
I got a lot of nicknames though that rhyme with my name:
Grody
Bodi
Commodie
Good times.
