Tax Day

Is coming up.  Has everyone filed their taxes?  Good or bad?

Richard and I will file ours on 4/15 because we owe $400.  If we had filed separately we each would have owed $1,500.00.  Boo tax day.

Re: Tax Day

  • I'm sorry that you guys owe, but at least you filed jointly!

Tax day is just another day for me/us. We filed back in February.

  • I've been procrastinating. So far I think we are getting money back from the federal and both states, but our taxes are complicated this year. I can't want until next year when we only have one state again.

  • We filed in febuary and we got 3,200 dollars back (jointly). It was fastly spent on tires, car payments, and bills.

  • We filed at the beginning of Feb. We got a decent amount back (4000) but we owe MD $1057 of it because MD is cheap wh0re that likes to kick anyone in the arse that lives there and works in another state.

We've spent about $400 of it (dinner, new plates, house stuff), but the rest is just going to sit in my savings account until Tom finds a job and is there for 90+ days. Then its going towards bills.

  • I filed back in Feb as soon as they got the stuff corrected for itemized deductions.  I was eager to get our money back!  Which reminds me... I never went and adjusted our withholding for this year.  No need to give the gov't another free loan this year.

  • I got my SS card issue fixed super fast! So we were able to finally submit ours.  We're getting a nice check from the Feds, and a tiny one from NJ.  NY accepted our return despite the name issue, probably cause we owe them a couple hundred.

Still not sure how we owe NY money. One more reason I should stop commuting to the city.

  • We haven't filed yet. We will have a bunch of credits for the renovations we did, but I'm still afraid that we're gonna owe a bunch of money. DH always owes.

Sunshine, we did the same.  We got back a nice chunk due to the house expenses, but spent some of that on our trip.

We both adjusted our withholdings, but we went too far!  H dialed his back since his is very easy to change, but he hasn't followed up yet to see if it's enough.  I would definitely rather get a refund next year then owe, especially since I should be on maternity leave in January.

  • Whenever tax day rolls around, I always think, "Oh yeah....has anyone really waited this long?"  We filed in February, which is typical for us.  I would have owed over $800 and Jeff would have gotten almost $3k if we filed separately (if we weren't married, I would have owed little to nothing), so instead we filed jointly and got something like $1500.

  • H and I did our taxes in Feb, got back just under $5k all together. That went to the new roof (instead of my new kitchen!).

But tax day is never "just another day" to me. Big Smile

  • We filed a couple weeks ago due to Snatchy being a well snatch. And huge uproar we now don't get a refund because she claim DSS instead of H like it was supposed to be and so now we are going to court because she is once again living up to her nickname.

  • We filed back in February and got about $10,000 back including our tax credit incentive from buying our house last year.  It went to some bills and our vacation later this year, the rest will go in savings.

  • we filed in early march and got back (jointly) about $3200.  we have gotten back all but CA and have spent most of it already on a new bed and bed accessories, our anniversary trip to FL, and a random weekend away in Texas in a couple of weeks :)

OMG, that's the worst.  I work in family support prosecution, and I can't tell you how often this comes up.  Often it's a race to the IRS, to file.

  • MFD always owes. We haven't had them done yet. I'm sure we'll be mailing them on the final day as always.

Although if the government is shut down, I don't think we should have to adhere to the tax deadline.

  • Feds were filed back in March & we got a nice refund.  State & city are still to be filed but we owe about $1500 total on those two...Since I work out of state, no 'local' taxes are held through the year so it's always a big bill come 4/15.  I'll probably mail the checks before we head to the hospital.

ETA:  Jessie...appropriate nickname.  What a biatch.
