Dear Community,

Our tech team has launched updates to The Nest today. As a result of these updates, members of the Nest Community will need to change their password in order to continue participating in the community. In addition, The Nest community member's avatars will be replaced with generic default avatars. If you wish to revert to your original avatar, you will need to re-upload it via The Nest.

If you have questions about this, please email help@theknot.com.

Thank you.

Note: This only affects The Nest's community members and will not affect members on The Bump or The Knot.

Gov't shut down

I know we have a lot of people here who may be affected by this and I just wanted to let you know I'm thinking about you all and hope it's resolved quickly for you and hope there aren't long term implications.

I can't imagine the stress that you all must be under.

((hugs))

  • Ditto.  For all who may be affected, I hope it's resolved quickly and the cost isn't too great for you!  For those that would have to go w/o pay ... I am so sorry and hope that this doesn't last too long and that they do what has sometimes been done in the past and you get retro pay!

I never really thought about it until this morning, but on top of the federal workers there are just so many others who would be affected as well.

My SIL came home from Japan until it's safe to go back, but her DH is still there as he is on active duty.  He still has to work, but won't get paid during the shutdown and she won't be able to receive any benefits either.

Or like Lizlarry who works in real estate and the deals that may fall through if FHA guaranteed loans are suspended.

Or the hotels & restaurants that close or have little business near national parks that can't be open.

Or for those that may be depending on a tax return.

Or those that spent money on a trip and may not be able to get a passport in time ...

Crappy.  And I know that some of these aren't as bad as others!  Still, just crappy all around!

Yup. While we are not affected just yet, we could be. We get our funding from HUD (Housing of Urban Development) and that could be on the chopping block.
