since I'm on a baby roll today...registry question
for those of you moms who registered...
did you put everything you figured you'd want on there? what about convertible car seats? I don't expect us to have a big shower but I don't know where to draw the line, and I kind of think it would make sense so we can use completion coupons later. am i overthinking this?
what about bottles? my endless stalking of the multiples board leads me to believe people try a few different brands, and the wall o nipples at Buy Buy Baby is terrifying.
Re: since I'm on a baby roll today...registry question
Yes, I registered for a convertible car seat, and I actually got it at one of my showers. When it came time for Brody to make the transition, I was glad to have it! But, in your case, that would also mean storing 2 large car seats for 6-12 months, depending on how big the twins are.
I knew I wanted to go with Drop-Ins because of the convienence factor. Thankfully Brody took to them right away, so we didn't have to play around with other brands. Don't let the wall of nipples scare you!
I had everything on there that we wanted for completion purposes only.
Bottles are hard because yes not every baby likes each bottle or each nipple. Josh was great with Dr. Browns and when/if we ever have a 2nd I hope that they are good with them because we have TON and they were great bottles.
I say put what you want on it - most people don't buy off the registry anyway
I'm not putting a convertible seat on mine because it could sit around for a year and that makes it 1 year closer to expiration date. I might register for a few different types of bottles (1 of each) to see which works but nothing cray like that.
I'm taking the minimalist approach to registering-- nothing crazy- we don't have a lot of room for things.
I went with the minimalist approach too...which was great, until a few weeks ago when Ben's outgrown his infant seat and we dropped about 350 on new car seats...so I'd register for them!
We didn't put everything on our registry. Especially things that you won't need until later on like jumperoos, convertible carseat, lightweight stroller (Still haven't gotten one, but we will for our cruise in August), older babies toys, etc. I also didn't add my breast pump in until after the shower, but before I cashed in the registry completion coupon. We also bought our own bedding, valances, bouncy seat, crib, highchair, and pack 'n play because they all went on clearance or sale before the shower and we knew we wouldn't get everything on our registry as it was. The crib we bought on Black Friday and the bouncy seat/high chair/pack 'n play had a buy 2, get 1 free sale so we cashed in and used a coupon on top of it. The bedding we got from a store we didn't register at (JCP) and it went on clearance when I was 5mo along, so we bought it on clearance and with an additional 20% off coupon.
We did not register for bottles (besides Medela storage bottles and bags), nipples, and pacis. We bought one of each kind we wanted to try with her (VentAir, Playtex Drop-ins, and the Medela ones that came with my pump) and waited to see which one she did the best on (Playtex Drop-ins). The same thing with pacis. She didn't take one until she was 3mo and I hate to say it, but if it weren't for my MIL- I doubt she'd ever have taken one. We tried a couple kinds out starting with the cheapest to the most expensive. Luckily, the 2nd kind we tried (Nuk) worked and we returned the unopened expensive ones.
ETA: We also got our convertible carseat on Black Friday this past year and I know a few twin moms who did the same thing and got Britax convertible carseats practically 2 for the price of one due to the sales.
well you could go with convertible carseats from the beginning I think some start at 5 lbs! Thne you wouldn't have to worry about infant seats but it is a thought.
I'd register for everything because you get the completion coupons.
As far as bottles we loved our Avent bottles they were the only ones that worked with Lucy's reflux because they didn't let in as much air. Our glass bottles did
I didn't register for the convertible carseat. I also was very minimalist with my registry because we don't have much room. You can always register for the convertable seats if you think you will have room to store them. But if you are thinking about registering them for using the completion coupon it may not be worth it. I ended up getting mine for a great deal through Amazon, and it qualified for free shipping. Thankfully that sale came close to a time we were looking to move Norah into the larger seat.
We also went with drop ins bottles. Norah took to them fine, thankfully we didn't have to experiment.
The only other bottle I had on hand was the Tommee Tippee. It is nice because all their lids are interchangeable. In theory you could just buy the sippy lids and you wouldn't need new bottles/cups.
I didn't put absolutely everything on there (didn't do convertible car seat, for example), but we did put some things on that we'd need later, like the high chair, umbrella stroller, etc. I think we just put a couple of bottles of different types because I heard that some babies are picky. Turns out P would drink out of anything as long as there was milk in it.
We got way better deals for both of our convertible carseats by waiting until Britax had sales (end of seasons - they change the fabric) and saved a lot more than if we had used a completion code.
We also didn't put the Bob on it; we got it from REI during a sale with our dividend.
