Pity party in here....

come on in.

I know my problems are small compared to others but I am still feeling sorry for myself right now.  I'll get over it, but please allow me to vent and feel free to join in if you wish.

-I am about to get AF and I am so disappointed.  I got a BFN a couple days ago but was hoping it was just too early to test.  I hate setting myself up for this disappointment.

-The possible government shut down/furlough has already affected my vacation/leave and my paycheck.  I had to go in to work today on my day off and again on Monday (another planned day off).  I just check my LES (military equivalent of a pay statement) and my next paycheck on the 15th of April will be half of what it is supposed to be.  The furlough isn't even official yet and they have already cut pay passed today.  Thanks assholes.

-If the furlough continues, my leave next week will be canceled and I won't be running my half marathon that I have been training 12 weeks for.  I will lose quite a bit of money on our non-refundable hotel and the race entrance.

Again, I realize my problems are small compared to what many people are going through, or may go through soon.  I just need to wallow in my self pity for a bit.

Re: Pity party in here....

  • don't think that your problems are small! you're always welcome to vent here, you know that! having a cut paycheck is a huge deal, and it's never fun to see a BFN.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you in both avenues! I couldn't imagine being told I had to go to work on my day off and then finding out that my pay was cut in half. I would be LIVID. my DH is scheduled to still be paid next week as far as I know (he's a contractor), and I'm SO thankful.

is there anyway you can contact the hotel and explain the situation if you end up not being able to run? even if they can't refund the whole amount, maybe they can give you back some of it?

  • Just wanted to say sorry that your having a tough day.  I can relate to the BFN and setting yourself up for disappointed. It's a vicious cycle of hoping and being disappointed when AF shows up.

Sending job vibes your way that the furlough will stop and you will be able to take the time off to run your race.

side note: yaya for someone being in Europe :)

  • Don't feel badly about venting! Like Mandee said, a drop in pay is a huge deal. I for one, would be totally screwed if that happened to me. And although we are still a few months from TTC, I can imagine the disappointment and frustration that comes with a BFN. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you too!

  • Aw man, that's super sucky. I'm sorry.
  • Your problems are just as valid as anyone else's. BFN's absolutely suck and don't get easier. I'm sorry about AF but I hope for better luck next cycle.

I'm sorry about your paycut, that would affect us negatively and again, it's not easy to go through something like that.

I hope things get better for you. I agree with Mandee that maybe it's possible to get a partial refund.

  • Thanks ladies, I appreciate the support.  We'll be fine without the pay for awhile, its more the fact that they can do this and we are completely powerless.  It didn't help that I had to go into work today on a "holiday" and then saw that we were only paid half.  There are so many more people out there that are really going to struggle if there is a furlough, so I feel bad complaining.

As for the race, I don't want to cancel anything quite yet because at any moment it could all change.  Even if it doesn't pass today, they have through the weekend and then we just have to take it day by day.  Plus, the race is in Vienna and most of the hotels are booked during their big race weekend.   They have a non-refundable policy and it is doubtful they will refund anything this close to the date.  I may give it a shot, but I'm still holding out some hope.

  • I don't think those are small problems at all. I would be very upset if I had to cancel a race after training for 12 weeks. Good luck next month TTC and I hope that the government gets its butt in gear soon.
  • Having to wait day-by-day is hard. Here's hoping you get to your race and put that training to work. And don't feel bad for complaining about the shutdown situation; the shutdown would affect people in different degrees, but it all stinks. I'm sorry about your BFN, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you for next time. :)
  • I'm so sorry.  That sucks on all accounts.  I know how disappointing a BFN is, and I can only imagine how frustrating the furlough situation is.  I really hope that they work it all out soon, because there are way too many people who are going to be affected if they don't.

  • I'm so sorry.  I really don't have much to add as all PP have said everything I would.  Here is to hoping that your cycle next month is it, and that they work everything out soon with the furlough situation.

  • It IS sucky and you DO have a right to throw a pity party. Keep your chin up, and vibes that something amazing happens and you'll still get to run your race!

  • I'm sorry.  All of those would be upsetting for me, too!  Don't feel bad.  We're all here for you.  I'm sending 'budget passing' vibes.

  • ::hotel worker stepping on soap box::

If you decide you need to cancel you could try telling them that there is a family emergency (I would say this counts as an emergency) and ask that they waive the no refund thing. It's not guaranteed, but at my hotel we don't ask questions when someone says that, we just waive everything. Good luck!
