Furlough Watch 2011
CNN is reporting that the Speaker will return any compensation he receives during a furlough to the treasury.

11:50 a.m. ET - Boehner announced Friday he will return his pay to the U.S. Treasury in the event of a shutdown, CNN Congressional Producer Deirdre Walsh reported.
In a letter to House members Friday, Boehner wrote: "In the event of a lapse in appropriations for fiscal year 2011 causing a government shutdown, I will return any and all compensation that I would otherwise be entitled during such a lapse in appropriations. During such shutdown, all members would be paid pursuant to the provisions of the 27th Amendment to the United States Constitution which states that no law, varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and Representatives, shall take effect, until an election of Representatives shall have intervened. This requirement of the Constitution does not bar individual members from refusing to accept their compensation for any time when a lapse in appropriations occurs. Should you desire to have your compensation returned to the United States Treasury, you may do so and House Administration Committee can assist in executing your decision."

Honestly, my leftie liberal heart kind of feels for Boehner, bc I think he is willing to compromise but others are driving him further away. I dont think he is gunning for a shutdown.
I agree; Boehner is old school and he knows this shutdown isn't a good idea. But, he can't wrangle the Tea Party caucus. Its sad. He'll go down for this.
no, you (your husband?) should get paid for the time already worked. Our payroll has already been closed out and my mother has been told that she will be paid (over at HHS.)

In general the stability is such a draw, but if both people work for the federal govt, it could be extra stressful not to have any income coming in.
Do you think after they finally decide on the budget for 2011 that they will be in danger of the same thing happening again for 2012? Ie, will this force them to compromise more quickly or will this be a reoccurring issue? It's sad to me that it's come to this, especially since it affects so many people in different ways.
