Did anyone else watch this show? all I can say is WOW...this has me totally motivated to clip coupons like its my job lol. I will say I think some of these ladies are a bit...well, extreme. I mean - I could never allow my house to overflow with a "stockpile" as they call it. However, it has really inspired me to take a little more time to prepare for a shopping trip.
And I thought I did good this week when I got 2 bottles of windex, and 2 cans of pledge for $5.35 total...I guess I need to step my game up lol.
Re: Extreme Couponing...
Wow - that seems so odd...and really a waste of coupons lol. I used to "coupon shop" in high school as a hobby - strange I know, but a friend of mines mom showed me how and I was so amazed.....this has really inspired me to get back into it.

So when I used to coupon shop I was in high school so I wasnt exactly planning meals and it was more of a hobby/thrill to see how much I could save. It can get kind of complicated but basically, parent companies produce coupons for their products, but the barcode doesnt specify the exact item. For example, one company may make toilet paper, and diapers - if you have a diaper coupon you can use it on the toilet paper they produce because the system doesnt recognize the difference. I know it sounds weird but its kind of cool.
Basically, each company uses the same first 5 digits on their barcodes. For example, 37000 - the last 5 digits of the coupon specify the discount, and quantity requirements. So if you have a coupon for $1 off 2 items, you will still need to buy 2 items, they just may not need to be the exact items on the coupon. The other day I used a $3 dollar off coupon for tide stain release, for regular tide detergent. Another thing to keep in mind is that many grocery stores will double a coupons value up to $.99 cents. So if you have a $.75 cent off coupon, it will double to $1.50 off, where a dollar coupon wont double - so its just a matter of understanding how the coupons work, and planning ahead. I would buy several sunday papers and clip coupons each week.
When I went in the past I would make a trip exclusively for "coupon shopping" and I would only buy things that were on sale, and I had a coupon for. Many times I would get the spray air fresheners for free, and other items for really really cheap. You wont have those jaw dropping savings if you go with a regular grocery list and buy things that arent on sale - which is why I would make it a seperate trip. I grocery shop weekly, but I would coupon shop maybe once a month.

Interesting - I never realized that about the "buy two" offer coupons. I will have to pay closer attention next time!
I do love me some double coupons though. One time I was able to get a box of mashed potatoes for free. I was so excited, haha!
Not sure if it would be considered "fraud" but typically the cashier doesn't really inspect the coupons, they just scan them. I've never had a problem with one going through unless it was expired - which of course was a mistake on my part and I just told them to toss the coupon.
I'm not suggesting anyone do something they arent comfortable with - honestly sorting coupons by the bar code as opposed to the product does take a lot of time (both for sorting, and matching with products in the store). With all the coupon matching sites they have now it almost doesnt seem worth it to do it the old way unless you have a good bit of spare time.
