Furlough

Is anyone here going to be affected if the government goes on furlough?

What are you going to do during the time off? If you're not going to be furloughed, what would you do if you were? (keeping in mind the the time is completely unpaid and you could be called back to work any day.)

Any other thoughts on the matter?

Re: Furlough

  • Not going to be affected, but if I were, I think I'd just spend the time by the pool. I'd probably invest some time in writing a future log of posts for my blog & whore out my blog.

ETA: I'm going to be Captain Obvious, but our gov't really needs to get their sh!t together. We have strongly opposed forces mostly due to the knee-jerk voting reactions of the American people.

  • It's somewhat of a big deal here, but not for salaries or work time -- it's more about the funding that folks are counting on for their research from NIH. Personally, my lab is stable for now, but I know others are pretty stressed.

  • Both DH and I work for the gov't and are not essential so we would be out of work during the furlough.

We will probably spend the days working on our florida room renovation - painting the walls, hanging up curtains, maybe tiling the floor. I tried to convince DH we should just start driving up the east coast, staying with different friends and family along the way, but he's not going for it.

It will suck not getting any income since we're both affected, but at least we have an EF we can fall back on if needed.

The whole thing is pretty ridiculous, but I have to admit, after all this buildup and planning, I'm kinda looking forward to a few days off and will be a little disappointed if I have to go to work next week. (Maybe I should posted that in FFC instead lol). But in reality, it's all just a giant cluster and really unfortunate that our gov't has brought us to this.

  • My mom would be affected and was planning on coming to visit me. But she just found out that her department is funded through April 15th so unless it lasts longer than next week she will be at work. She is not exactly happy because all alternate schedules are suspended and she usually has every other Monday off. Now she has to work this Monday.

  • I won't be affected personally but my employer serves the military and DOD so it's kind of a big deal at work.

If I did get furloughed I would work on some house and yard projects that I never have time to do.

  • I will not be affected because I'm a state employee.  But my husband's military pay will most likely be affected, which is annoying.

If I was furloughed, I'd get some stuff around the house and plan blog posts.

  • Its not affecting me, but if I did I would just go to the beach and the dog park and wait until its over.  There's not really much more you can do about it.

  • It would have affected me, since I'm a government contractor.  I was planning to clean out some closets, work on the nursery and do some spring cleaning :)
