Is it ok to apply for more than one position within a company?

Hello, I am currently searching for jobs and have found quite a few I am interested in, some of which are in a same company or even department.  Is it ok for me to apply for more than one job in a company or department?  Also, can you share tips on how to improve my chances of being called in for an interview (for example, follow-up with recruiters, etc.)

I appreciate it.  TIA.

Re: Is it ok to apply for more than one position within a company?

  • what's the process of applying for a job at this company? do they have an online application (one of those you have to manually fill everything in)? or is it the case where you have to write a cover letter and attach it to an email and send it directly to the hiring manager?

If it's the case where you have to write a cover letter/CV and attach it to an email, then I'd write a cover letter that would explain that you have x set of experiences  and skills that are a good match for x and y jobs.

If it's the online application type where you manually type in everything and just send it,and I'm learning that most bigger companies go this route, then I'd just apply to both jobs. It goes in their data base and different recruiters or hiring managers might look at it.

  • It is an online application systems, where you apply through the website, filling in the information.

  • Most large companies that have websites offer the ability for you to set up a profile and apply for multiples jobs.

I applied for two with the same company, when I met with the recruiter, she had me in mind for five. We narrowed it down to three and I applied for those. I was offered two of the three and was able to choose the one that I wanted.

I would apply for as many as possible. It worked out really well for me. One of the jobs had a higher salary than the one that I ended up taking. I was able to negotiate the higher salary for my position.
