Random: Goat Cheese

I realized a few blocks from the train that I forgot my lunch today, rather than walking back in the rain and being late to work, I decided I'll just by my lunch.

There's a new place in my building and one of their apps is goat cheese w/marinara and bread.  Do you think the goat cheese would be too rich to eat it all myself as my lunch?

Lol, I warned this was random.

  • Mmm, good! I was nervous it may be too rich, but I'm salivating just thinking about it!!

Now I just have to call to see if I can do a carry-out order since it's a sit-down kinda place.

I'm confused by the question.  Personally, I can eat goat cheese at any time of day with no problems.  But I think I get what you mean.  I can't handle chocolate and sweet things in the morning for breakfast (especially sugary cereals, poptarts, etc), so I have a sweetness parameter.   Do you normally have a richness parameter for your lunch?  I guess you'll have to answer that question yourself.

  • So did you get it?  If so, was it good?  I've actually never had goat cheese, but it sounded yummy.

Haha, yes.  I tend to think of goat cheese as being rich...and combined with the creamy/dairy (of it being cheese) I was nervous it'd may not been good as a main meal...

But Xan, to answer your question, it was awesome!!  Served warm w/marinara and I think the marinara helped tone it down so it wasn't too rich.  Great lunch, too bad it's double the cost of a sub (I usually get Potbellys if I forget my lunch).

Goat cheese is good and I've only had it a handful of times b/c it's expensive (to me anyhow, like $6 at the grocery store). Even just with Ritz crackers it tastes great.

I think I've mentioned this on here before, but since you're about to get a new grill, I'll post it again...

Grill some chicken, add goat cheese on top of each breast, then a slice of tomato, then some basil (I usually chiffonade it).  It is amazing!

Sure!  I would recommend breaking in the new grill with this one - it's that good!  Well, maybe after you cook some steaks...

Chiffonade is when you take a stack of basil leaves, roll them up, and then slice them to make shreds, basically, of basil.  This is probably a better explanation...

It's just an easy way to cut it.  I do the same thing when I make caprese salad, or pretty much anything else I use fresh basil for...

  • Nooooooo goat cheese!  lol, no, I like it, depending on the application. It's just that Ross ordered SEVEN POUNDS of it for our wedding from a local cheese maker.  It was $100 worth of cheese.  I was like, seriously?!?!  Why would you do that?  Seven pounds of goat cheese fills two gallon ziplock bags.  Our wedding only had about 65 guests.  It went out as an app (on crostini) and wrapped inside (with spinach) chicken breasts.  And we had a full bag left over.  Sigh.
  • Hannah, I just have to point out that this is the best subject line of any TN post. Ever. <3 you girl!
