Post yours...the "almost" dresses

I was cleaning out some pictures earlier and ran across these...

Maybe I'm the only one who still has pictures of them, but if you have them, post pictures of the dresses that were almost "the one"...until you found yours.

(For the record, I think this has been done before, but it's a fun post to me, for some reason!)

This really is a terrible picture of this dress, but it is really beautiful worn on a person who isn't slouching like a 90 year old woman with saggy boobs.  The handmade lace was so beautiful and delicate and cascaded asymmetrically down the entire dress and right into the sweep train.  There was a lovely long ribbon that tied on the back (behind the bust) and flowed all the way to the floor.  There were tiny crystals sewn into the lace that would catch the light now and then. It was so elegant and romantic.  I was so torn between this dress and the one I got, but I still think I made the right decision.

  • Here are mine.

I went to Boston the day after we got engaged to visit my sister (he did it the night before I left so that I could surprise her when I got there).  So of course my sis and I went dress shopping!  I fell in love with this one:

When I got back to Texas, my mom and I went shopping and found these:

I was sure this was the one until I found mine (which coincidentally was the same designer, who I just LOVE!):

And...the grand finale...my dress!  As soon as I put it on, I knew.

    Sorry for the long post!

  • Here's mine:

It was narrowed down to between these two and actually both my oldest sister and my BFF liked this one better. I loved the corset back that this one had, but liked the bodice and lace skirt of the other better and felt that the other was more me. I'm very happy I listened to my gut and not my friends. I think I would have kept thinking back on what could have been if I got this one.

  • I bought my dress the first day I went dress shopping.

There was one dress that I liked better than the one I got, but that one was $975 and the dress I got was on sale and i talked them down to $200, so it was the one.

I really liked the more expensive one, with it's pickups and extra details, but I don't have any pics... after we bought my dress I asked my mom to email me the pics she took, but only of the dress we bought and told her to delete the rest - I did not want to have dress envy!

    Haha!  That's funny.

That's how I know I chose the right one (besides the fact that I did not want to take the sample off when I tried it on the first time!).

I look back on the others and think about how disappointed I would've been if I'd chosen those over mine.  I also watch Say Yes to the Dress, etc., and always think about how much I love mine compared to any of the crazy expensive dresses they try on.

Same with my ring...I think it is more beautiful than any ring in the world...even the amazingly gorgeous ones in the T&Co and Cartier ads!

I guess once these things are part of something so special, they become that way anyway...

  • I don't think I had an almost dress.  I found my relatively quickly after trying on several that were definitely not what I wanted at all and that looked awful on me.  Sometimes I wish I had the experience of trying multiple dresses, but I can't imagine having another dress.

  • I had a lot of "almost" dresses, I was waiting for the "say yes to the dress" moment, crying and all that jazz, but it never happened. This was "the one" until I tried on the dress I got at a trunk show. It wasn't on the racks yet when I tried it on, it was just a sample that they were "trying out." This is my almost dress:

And my dress (this is when I tried it on):

  • Join me in my pity party, won't you?

Every dress I tried on looked terrible. When I got home and looked at the pictures, I cried. I finally bought the dress that I thought looked best in pictures....I believe I bought it in March or April before the wedding...I obviously had to pick something lol.

    Looking back, these weren't terrible.

This one I liked okay, but the lace wrecked my shoulders...after a few minutes of it on, my skin was soooo red. I have very sensitive skin.

And this one is very similar in style to my dress I ended up getting, but I wasn't a fan of the beading on the top.

The dress I ended up getting...which I now like :)

    I hated dress shopping. Blah.

  • When I got engaged I was actually about to be a bridesmaid in my girlfriends wedding so when I went to pick up my dress for her wedding - the girls were like tryyyy on dressesssssss lol  So I saw the mermaid style in magazines and knew that's what I wanted.. I tried on the first one I pulled, and never looked back.  It was my first and only gown I tried on and that's the end of my story lol
