I cannot thank you enough for the recommendation for the Farmhouse Inn! We had booked the smallest room available, but upgraded day-of to the Barn Suite. Oh. My. God. it was amazing!
Everything about our stay was incredible. The warm cookies. The steam shower AND the complimentary spa products (did you try that brown sugar honey scrub? wow.) The indoor/outdoor fireplace with patio. The smores fixin's. The SPA. The breakfasts. Even the grounds were stunning -- April is definitely the time to go to Napa/Sonoma -- everything was beautiful and green. The wildflowers were all in bloom at Farmhouse. It was just delightful.
Our only disappointment was the restaurant. Maybe we are spoiled with the great DC scene, or maybe it was an off night, but we were not happy with it. The service was bad, the food was good enough, but we weren't blown away. I got a lot of attitude from the server when I complimented a soup that I'd asked them to make veggie ("It's even better when you get it with the crab." Um, ok.) But that was an absolute anomaly for our experience. Everything else was incredible.
We almost never splurge on hotels, but I am SO glad we did! Thank you, thank you for the recommendation!

Oh yay! I'm so glad you had a wonderful experience - I seriously think of the Farmhouse as a little slice of heaven here on earth, and I'm happy to share it with whomever I can!
I'm sorry the restaurant was disappointing, though. Did you speak with the front desk about the attitude you received? I bet they'd do everything they could to remedy the situation. I remember our experience there as being really good, but not nearly as wonderful as some of the other wine country meals we've had (Cyrus, Ad Hoc, etc.).
So jealous that you've been there recently now - I think I might need to look for some deals to San Fran.
It was soooooo wonderful. The dinner was just a small blip on an otherwise fantastic stay! We're already talking about how we don't need to go anywhere else for vacation soon, b/c we just want to go back to Sonoma and Farmhouse!
Virgin America was only $300 r/t... and you can check your wine in a shipping box for $25! Far cheaper than trying to ship it back via UPS at $80+!
