when did your child master the swingset

just wondering when I can stop pushing!  C was doing well last year and just gives up.  I tell her I will give her one push then its up to her to pump her legs and move her body to help it move.  Then she gets mad that I am pushing R on the swing..well she can't do that yet.

Anyway, I feel like I have the only 4 year old who can't swing.

  • Ella was over 5 I think.

  • **no J hasn't mastered it yet**

I want to say I remember this being a criteria in my school age evals, so kids over 5 was when we started looking to see if they "got it"

I did know some kids who could pump around 3.5, but mostly it was around 4.5-6 that it really starts to click

  • No, Lily doesn't do it on her own either...I agree, around 5 they really 'get it'.
  • I worked at a summer camp as a teen, and about 1/2 of the 5-year-olds could do it completely on their own... but even then, most *wanted* to be pushed so they could go "to the moon"!

  • no ! mila just turned 4 and loves to have me push her. for me i think its more lazy/habit than not being able to do it. i still think she is young and dont mind pushing her so much :)

  • It was just a few months ago and he's 5 1/2.  We *just* on Saturday got him to start himself and pump himself up so we didn't have to push even once.  That was huge!
  • glad to know she was not alone in this!  Its seems like all her little friends were doing it on there own.  Now that I think of it, they all have older siblings too, so maybe that makes the difference.

I lowered the swing and she know has done it so maybe that was it.
