can i vent for a minute, that it as much as it is great that the IL's moved to Montana (so we don't see them very often) that it will cost us over 2,000 dollars to visit them for a week this summer!!!! with me staying at home, we are saving as much as we can. I know they are family, but not quite the way I want to spend 2 grand...they won't help at all with the tickets and they come here at xmas so they won't come here in the summer...I know part of this is being selfish and I know that but I just needed to vent a moment!!!
VENT over!
Re: inlaws vent
My FIL, DHs grandparents, DHs aunt and uncle, DHs cousins (some) and our friends still live in Alaska. It also costs us about $2,000 to go visit in the summer. We dont go every year. We cant afford to. Sometimes just DH goes even though I am sad to not visit my friends it costs less and DH can see his dad and grandparents etc.
It's cheaper if we go at an off peak time like winter. Winter in Alaska can be nicer than here sometimes
oh man, that is certainly not how i'd want to spend $2K either
is going at a time when flights are more affordable an option? i love and hate that my ILs now live in brazil because while brazil is a wonderful place to visit, we cannot afford to go every year and we don't want to as family time does not equal quality vacation/getting away for us.
Vent away! My dad and his wife are in South Dakota. The tickets are usually around $700 a piece and require a stop in Minneapolis, then some sort of small commuter plane that is usually filled with hunters. Then, they are about 80 minutes from the airport. We have not gone there in two years because it is expensive, the weather usually sucks and it is totally inconvenient.
Plus, my dad use to live here and he is retired so he can travel to see us
You are super-nice--and vent away!
My SIL moved to California (LA--so fairly cheap tickets) and has only taken her family back east to visit the family TWICE since I have known my husband (10 years). Once was when we got married and the other time was for a three-day weekend because her husband's father was being honored at the Native American Museum.
Yet, my husband and their other sister never hear the end of the fact that we haven't gone out to visit them. We weren't the ones to move away!
the prices never go down...and there are no direct flights ever....geez thats because they live in the middle of NOWHERE!!!! they are semi retired and do come to us at xmas but seriously...
then on top of that once we get there, there house is going to be logistical nightmare for a toddler moving around......
