my FB was hacked....paranoid now

So my sister calls me this afternoon and tells me my FB was hacked into. How'd she know? We'll, she was chatting with "me" and "I" told her Brian and I were in London and had been robbed at gunpoint etc. Which she knew was false. I hopped on FB and could see the conversation going on. It was also going on with 2 other FB friends. Oddly enough I was able to reply back and told them it was hacked. So anywho, I have now changed my password.

Another thing though. This is the paranoia part. BIL mentioned that I shouldn't "check in" places on FB b/c it just advertises that you aren't home. Now, only my approved friends can see my page, but you just never know. It makes sense. He also mentioned that we (people in general) should be careful about updating your status when on vacation, b/c again, it just advertises that you aren't home. Darn, there go all my fun updates for our upcoming vacation!

So anyhoo, just a friendly PSA to be careful about what you put out there on the internet!

  • oh no! This happened to our friends as well. Yes, I am selective when I check into places ESP at home. I do not want people to know where I live.

  • Creepy! That totally sucks that your account got hacked. Mine did a few months ago and FB suspended it for a few weeks ... Glad you still had access to it. Check your e-mails and make sure an unknown forwarding address didn't get added and perhaps change those passwords as well.

  • That is really creepy! Glad your sister was able to alert you to the issue!
