Arlington/Old Town Alexandria Lunch recommendations

So DH's Grandma will be in town for Mother's Day weekend. Not really planned, but that's how it worked out. She wants to take us out for lunch. Eeep! Lunch on Mother's Day is going to be insane and a crowd I typically try to avoid, but she will only be in town for that weekend.

I'm planning on making reservations at an off hour maybe like between 2-3PM. I'm looking for a place in Arlington or Old Alexandria that has prices in $15-20 range that is like Carlyle or Clyde's (I would love to go to either of these places, but we went there the last two times that she was in town). Some place nice, but not too nice. Since they live in FL, they're not used to prices around here and I don't want her to think we're trying to gouge her.

We're looking to get away from Shirlington, since we live near there, we always go there.

Any help is appreciated! There will be 5 of us including Baby Handy.

Re: Arlington/Old Town Alexandria Lunch recommendations

  • we just had dinner on Saturday night at the Light Horse in Old Town and it was really good (and reasonable)!

  • What about the Majestic in Old Town?
  • We had dinner at Overwood on Saturday and it was very good. Prices are in your range and their menu has a good variety.

  • Chart House is always good for reasonable priced lunches/dinners.
  • We've done brunch at Gatsby's Tavern and while the cocktails are not cheap, the food was really yummy and much less that I thought it would be.  We've taken to the toddler too.  It's a la carte and I'm not sure if there would be Mother's Day pricing though.

  • No recs, but I wanted to suggest you try to go on Saturday instead of Sunday if you want to try to avoid the craziness.

  • We did Mother's Day last year at Landini Brothers in Old Town. It was delicious, not overcrowded, and very nice but not overpriced at all. I would highly recommend!

  • Liberty Tavern or Harry's Tap Room in Clarendon are both places we've taken Sprout (although for early dinners...lots of other kids around too)
  • I'm a big fan of the Columbia Firehouse in Old Town for family activities. It has a great vibe, good architecture, sustainable/local food selections, etc. We go there often for brunch and have gone one other time for dinner - every meal has awesome, tasty things.

Save room for dessert! They have an oatmeal cookie (or somethign like that) ice cream in one of them that is legendary and they also have a sampler plate that brings out little mini versions of a snickers bar, mint chip sandwich and 3-4 little debbie spinoff creations. So tasty.
