Possible good news!

DH and I have been speaking and while he didn't get the raise we were hoping for this week, he's finally given in and realized that we can make it work if I stay at home. There are so many families with SAHMs who make it work on less than he earns so we know it's possible. I'm probably going to continue working till the end of September so we have about 6 months to build up our savings even more and I have that time to figure out how to cut our budget down slowly without having to go cold turkey - all this coupon stuff is overwhelming and I think it needs to be done a bit at a time. Hopefully in 6 months I'll be an expert!

Keep your fingers crossed that DH doesn't change his mind!!

  • YOU CAN DO IT!!! just live within your means and you'll be just fine!! my sister stopped working when she had her baby and they've been living on her hubby's decent but not HUGE salary for 2 years now. they cut down on some of the "extras" in life (cut their home phone line, reduced their cable channels to only the basics, cut the HD, cut back immensely on starbucks trips, packed lunches instead of eating out  etc.....) it all adds up to save you money in the end! you can make it work !!!!

I know we can do it - it's just going to take some figuring out how! We rarely eat out at all and don't spend a lot of money on things we don't really need, so in some ways it's going to be hard to figure out exactly where to cut!! We'll do it though!

  • yeah - i know your dh is thrifty anyways, so i cant imagine you guys spending lots of (what some may say "wasteful") $$ - but hang in there! vibes that you'll get to stay home soon enough with that precious baby of yours :) seriously, i want to STEAL her!!

  • Caroline - we really have to work on this together!  We still don't have a house yet and won't know how much our monthly expenses will be exactly until we're all settled in, but...if it all works out I may be staying home from now on too.  We are just like you guys are rarely spend money frivolously, so I really need to be creative in where we can save.  I REALLY need to get back into couponing.  I was super serious about it for a while before I had Andrew but then gave up cause it took up too much time.  We will have to share tips and good coupon finds!  Also, I plan on looking into elance too.

  • That is great!! I am hoping to figure out a way that I can stay at home in a year or so, if I don't get this new position.

  • Good luck Caroline! I'm sure you can do it!

I wish I could stay home. It is going to be rough with 2U2 for sure.
