Pls. recommend your favorite way to track airfare

I need to start looking at prices for DC to Atlanta for July 4 weekend.

Aren't there sites where you enter your info and they either email you or you log on each day to see how the fares are, well, faring?

  • What about Farecast? Just enter where you want to go and your travel dates and it well tell you whether you should buy or wait.

    That's pretty darn cool.

  • I like Kayak for price alerts.

  • I like using Kayak.com to search for airfares because you can search for variable dates (1 day before or after, 2 days before, etc.). Then it will give you a grid of the departure and arrival dates and show you when you can get the best price. It doesn't tell you the best time to buy per se but it tells you how much you can save by using different travel dates and times. I also like their sliders in the left so you can enter your preferences.

  • When I was recently scoping airfare I used the Kayak alerts feature and it worked pretty well.

I read somewhere that the best time to buy airfare was Tuesday afternoon/evening. I have no idea if that's true, but the prices definitely seem to jump as you get closer to the weekend.

    The DC Nest. Winers welcome.

ditto kayak and tuesday evenings (and even wednesdays) tend to be the optimal days to book for good pricing.

  • I love airfarewatchdog.com

You can put in where you want to go and it will email any deals (direct from the airlines--including southwest, american, etc., the travel sites, and even unadvertised sales) every time there is a new one.
