Sorry...need to get this out before I leave for work.
My boss is out of town this week. In her absence, I've been put in charge. Now, I've been a supervisor before, and I think it's a roll I strive in. However, at our workplace, I'm not a supervisor. I'm just one of the team. It's a bit awkward to being "in charge" for the week considering our normal dynamic.
It's kinda like this: I feel like I'm the oldest sibling where I work. I have a slightly different position, but in general, we're all "the same" in terms of responsibilities and powers (except I'm the only "staff" person; everyone else is a student. But I worked with them for 2.5 years when I was a student too). But this week, it's like mom is out of town and left me (said oldest sibling) in charge of the "younger kids." And, like most "older siblings," I've been in charge for a day or half day or whatever before...never a whole week.
I'm just freaking out because I really, really, really want to do well this week. Not only because I simply want things to go well, but for another very important reason: My boss is leaving at the end of this semester, and I'm planning on applying for her job. I feel like this week is kind of a test as to whether or not I can handle it.
Bah. Okay. Just needed to stress/freak out before I head in to work this morning.
Re: Mini-Monday Meltdown
So just how "mini" was this Monday?
How did it go today? I'm sure you'll do great this week. I agree, I'm sure this is harder than it would be to actually be the boss. But you're a smart cookie; I'm sure you can find a way to get the perfect balance!
