Fur Coat Resale?

My sister and I inherited three fur coats when my very stylish and clothes obsessed aunt died - over 9 years ago. Since fur really isn't our style (and my aunt was super petit and we are not even close to that!), we have stored them at my father's house and never really thought about them.

But now my father wants to clear out some closests and as such, we need to sell them - but we have no clue where to start!  I think two of them are mink - one full length - and one is fox or something similar. My aunt never bought anything "cheap", so I'm sure they are all excellent quality . . . but I would really have no clue how to independently judge such a thing.

From a quick google search it looks like the two major fur stores in the cities (Ribnick and Alaskan) don't buy used - but maybe there is a high-end consignment shop or something that would??

Even if we could get them appraised and list them independently . . . .we just don't know where to start and we want to get rid of them!

Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated!

Re: Fur Coat Resale?

  • There is a "higher end" consignment store in Edina at 50th & France called Fashion Avenue.  Maybe call them and ask?

Could you call Ribnick and Alaskan and ask if they know where you can consign fur?

That was my next thought/step.I know they do trade-ins and upgrades, so maybe they do resales but don't advertise it?

Thanks for the Edina consignmetn rec - I'll look into it!

    Craigslist?

We've thought of that - once we get them properly appraised. The only thing is that neither my sister or I are all that comfortable showing things of such high value to random internet strangers, ya know? We wouldn't want to show them at our homes (she is in Milwaukee) and neither of us has the space to store them. They are currently at my Dad's home in Central WI  (which wouldn't have the strongest CL market) so we'd prefer to just take them from there and sell them somewhere in a larger metro area.

We'll see. If it turns out selling them on CL is the best way to go, then we'll figure something out - but it is sort of a last resort option fo the  both of us.

  • A few of the Macy's stores might still have fur salons - Minneapolis, Southdale, and Ridgedale.  They might be able to lead you to a good place to sell them.
