Frustrated about COBRA

I was told (and my paperwork from employer states) that I would only have to pay 35% of the health ins cost because the government was charging employers for the difference. I got my first invoice and it the full $440+. I called our HR dept and she just found out the government discontinued that program months ago but never informed her. Not what I budgeted at all!!!

"the government" informed the whole country a long long time ago. It's unfortunate the HR department didn't realize this, but this expired ages ago.

  • Yea, my HR person thought it was extended with the unemployment benefits.  She never received any updated paperwork. It apparently ended 12/31. I got laid off 1/18, but had coverage until 3/31.

  • I think it ended around May or June of 2010. I lost my group benefits around that time and the federal subsidy was not in effect even back then.

It's been at least that long. DH went on COBRA April of 2010 and he's always paid full price.
