So over the winter we had some strange sightings of a white long haired German Shepherd in our woods. DoggieCrushing was driven crazy by this. The dog would come and mark along our yard, and by our coop. A couple of times we saw something had dug at the coop, but we weren't sure if it was a fox/coyote/something else or this dog. The annoying part about this is that the dog must have frequently come in the middle of the night because when DoggieCrushing went out for his first morning pee he could smell something and would start barking ferociously, and circle the coop.
So anyways this has continued to happen, and then this morning I caught the white GSD along with another sable long haired GSD trying to get into our coop. I called to them because they had collars on so I could see if I could call their "parents." They ran off as soon as they heard my dog barking like crazy from inside. They ran through the woods which makes me think that they live on the cul-de-sac behind us. Basically our backyard wooded lot empties into the backyard wooded lot of someone in the cul-de-sac. I don't know any of the people that live there other than a different family that has one dog because her dog gets out of the house, and runs through the woods to our yard on occasion.
So today I walked over to the cul-de-sac hoping to find a neighbor out to ask who owns these dogs. They are notable I figure because long haired (and especially the white one) GSDS are not common. There was no one out though with the exception of ANOTHER dog just roaming off of it's property. My plan is just to go back again tomorrow to try to find out who the dogs belong to, and tell them that they are getting into my yard trying to get into my coop. Am I taking it too far? I just don't want them to attack my ladies.
Re: What would my Nesties do?
Not taking it too far. I'd probably also call ACO and file a complaint. Try to get pix of them.
Do you have HOA in your neighborhood?
The thought did cross my mind to call ACO, but I didn't know if that is just too much. I guess at this point though my thought is that these people MUST know that their dogs are getting out because it happens so frequently. If DoggieCrushing ever got out on his own I would be so upset! If I call ACO what will happen when they find the owners? I can take photos of them next time for sure.
We don't have HOA in our neighborhood.
Well IF they can get out there, observe, and catch the dogs, they will call the owners and fine them.
If they can't find the owners, they'll go to a shelter and the owners will have 10 days to get them. They will still be fined.
I never have any problems calling ACO on anyone. lol
I am just afraid of the poor dogs having to go to a shelter. What happens if at the end of 10 days they do not collect the dogs?
Depends on the shelter . Most reach out to rescues and they come out and grab up dogs they want. The purebred ones generally will go to breed specific rescues.
If it's a high kill shelter or their temperaments suck, then they get put down.
But likely, if they have collars on, the ACO is going to take them home, yell at the owners, fine them, and leave.
Good luck. I think this is your best course of action - someone has to know whose dogs they are.
Otherwise, I vote for taking a picture and and making a "Wanted" style poster to slip in the mailboxes on that street.
