Educate me re: gov't shut down
Can someone school me? All the articles I'm seeing say that there was only enough budget passed to get through this week. But people are telling me no, the budget for through Sept was passed. What's the deal now? I would ask someone here but I really think I should know this and don't

Re: Educate me re: gov't shut down
They agreed to a one week "stop gap" measure to temporarily fund the government for one more week. They also are working out the final details of the final budget (until September)--should pass this week on Wednesday or Thursday. Republicans got over 300 billion in discrectionary spending cuts and Democrats got the "defunding" womens health (ie Planned Parenthood) and the Obama Health care stripped from this budget and put in as seperate bill measures.
Does this help (asks the Government teacher)? It' been my current events/warm up for all of my classes today so no problem!
They passed a stop gap for this week and by Friday should vote and pass the budget through 30 Sept, the end of the fiscal year.
It's not like this is the 3rd quarter already Congress!

Pretty much you are in the clear... the only way the budget doesn't pass is if either the house or senate does not pass the compromise bill... but both leaders have said their chamber will pass it and the President has said he will sign it as well.
The next big worry is the debt ceiling. The gov't will reach the amount they are limited to borrowing in May... if Congress does not raise the ceiling or does not figure out a way to cut more money... we all might be in trouble again.
