"IUD Insertion on Monday" Update

You ladies were so sweet with your advice and comments. So I am giving a little update if your interested.

The following Monday after posting I went to get the Paragard IUD inserted. The doctor did my annual exam first and saw that I had a tiny yeast infection. So I get prescribed an antibiotic for two weeks then come back.

Two weeks later.. She tries to insert the IUD into my cervix, but my cervix will not open up. She then gives me a pill that is supposed to help dilate the cervix enough to insert the IUD. An hour later she tries to insert again and my cervix was just not having it.
Needless to say I did not get the IUD put in which made me very disappointed. I wanted a hormones free birth control method. I have been on several other pills and they have made me have terrible mood swings.

She prescribed me to prescribed me progestin only birth control pills, Nora-Be. Hopefully these pills do not make me crazy or gain weight.

ETA: I have not had any kids.

I don't know if I read your previous post, but were you told about Fertility Awareness Method and the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility?

BC pills are useless to me because of other medication I take so H and I use FAM and condoms. If Nora-Be doesn't work it might be something to think about.

GL, I hope this works for you. Smile

I wouldnt recommend getting one anyway. i had one and it gave me huge cyst and a tumor, i cramped all the time and i was, well not a happy person. i only know one person that has been 100% happy with theirs and shes had two kids. and an abnormally large uterus.

This. FAM has been great for me and DH! I felt horrible on hormonal birth control (nuva ring) and FAM has been great for getting to know my own body and cycles. I definitely recommend it -- check out the book! :)

  • Similar thing happened to me.  No kids.  We did a "dry run" at my initial appt. to see if my cervix would even allow her to put the IUD in.  It did, so I thought we were good to go.  Um, no.  She put it in, then my blood pressure fell.  I thought it was just from my deep breathing during the insertion.  It wasn't.  Basically, my uterus was fighting hard to expel it and my BP wouldn't go back to normal, so she had to take it out.  (This was very strange, things like this don't happen to me).  I was pretty disappointed and am now back on the pill!
  • Well maybe it is for the best.  My doctor did not give me anything to help with the process, I dont have kids and she basically push it up there..Was not a fun experience and  it was very painful.  I had 8 months of odd pains and couldn't fully function or even have sex.  I had it removed eventually and all the side effects went away.  There are other options, FAM, condoms, as well as more perm. tubes tied and get your DH snipped.  All viable options.  DH got snipped because I wasn't going through pills or anything else again.

  • Lucky you! Paragard was a total nightmare for me!! I got it put in last April, 8 weeks after I had my son. And for 10 months I had the worst AF EVER!! It was horrible. After about 7-8 months I started talking to my OB about the issues and they said that is common with Paragard. It builds up the lining in your ute more than normal bc of the lack of extra hormones (???). I dunno--it was horrible and I would never rec it to anyone. Now that I am on BCP everything is back to normal.
