Chicken and Dumpling Recipe

Does anyone have the allrecipes.com chicken and dumpling recipe that has been shared in the past here. It was a crockpot recipe.

I don't want to search through all the recipes on that site, to find the one I used in the past. I'm surprised I didn't save it.

Re: Chicken and Dumpling Recipe

  • I'll search for you because I don't feel like workign.  Smile

    Is this the one?  http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Slow-Cooker-Chicken-and-Dumplings/Detail.aspx

I basically do this, but I use chicken broth, 1 can cream of celery, and 1 can cream of chicken.  I also add extra broth and throw in a bunch of diced veggies in the last 2 hours.

It got over 3,000 5 star reviews so I bet this is the one you're looking for.

Brian hates it too, so I'm making it for work.

Thanks ladies. I'm looking forward to eating it tomorrow.

  • I tried it once, and hated it too.  I wasn't expecting the dumplings to be so gummy.  The rest of the flavors were good though.

i brought it in to work one time, but I forgot the base of the Crockpot (duh!), so I put it in the oven to cook. The dumplings didn't get pushed down enough, so the dumplings cooked more like biscuits.

That was the outcome I was hoping for - more of a biscuit topping, so I was disappointed.  Maybe I could just bake the dish if I wanted to try again, b/c I feel like I liked the rest of the flavors.

A staple in my house (that is in the chix n' dumpling family) is Pioneer Woman's pot pie.  Looove it.  And H does too.  I cheat and buy ready-made, store bought pie crust.  It's a simple recipe to throw together.

I think dumplings tend to be a little gummy because they are cooke in the juice rather than be exposed to direct heat.

  • Try this except use a roll of grands! instead of the homemade biscuits.
