Hi! Last week we talked about C25K and you said you were on wk5, how did the 20 min run go??  Did you feel amazing afterward?   I kinda fell off the wagon with wedding stuff happening in March, but I picked it back up last night and I started on wk4. I may have to do it twice... it was hard after a month and a half off.  Do you use the C25k app?

Re: **Lesalyric**

  • 20 minutes wasn't bad at all. I felt great after running. We ran on a middle school track and the sprinklers came on during the last minute and completely surprised/soaked us - so I was nice and cool by the time it was over...lol.

I use the Feltip C25k app (the brown one) for iphone. I prefer the interface of it to the other one (the green one.)

We are doing a 5k on May 7th but I realized that we won't be finished with the program in time. I think we are rounding out week 6 and then we are going to stop following the app and just do 12 laps around the track with no stopping instead of the 25-30 minutes without stopping that weeks 7, 8 and 9 call for.

That's the only thing I hate about the timed program - unless you are running 10 minute miles (which as a fat kid - I am not...haha) you don't get in 3 miles during the 30 minutes, so you aren't actually ready for a 5k at the end of the program.

Keep going, I know if I can do it, you can!

  • 10 minute miles are quick! I alittle slower... 13-14 minute miles. ha!  Ok ALOT slower!  I'll definetly check out that app, I usually use a watch, and its annoying checking it. So I thought maybe the app would have music and talk to you and tell you when to run and walk.  Running on a track is a good idea to keep track of distance.  I currently run in my neighborhood and sometimes have no clue how far I'm running. Do you ever get tired and you slow down your running and you feel as though you could walk faster??  ugh.. I hate that!

There is another run coming up in June 4thish I think.  Anyway, its called the Fire Fly run and its a night and everyone wears glow sticks!  Sounds kinda fun and you would for sure be done with the program by then!  A friend of mine completed the c25K and she is redoing it now for speed. Jogging where the walking intervals are and running faster when it calls for the jogging intervals.

Thanks for the encouragement!  GL to you too! Smile

  • Don't worry, I run between 12's and 14's depending upon the elements and how much energy I have. I know I could speedwalk faster sometimes! Haha. The track is a good idea for distance without having to invest in a monitor of some kind. A quarter mile track will always be a quarter mile, so you don't have to think about it, which is nice.

The app is good if you have iphone or ipod touch, you just start a playlist then start the app. It tells you run, walk, half way, 1 minute left, etc.

I will be in SC the weekend of the 4th - but that run sounds really fun! I wish I could do it. Your friend is a juggernaut obviously...lol. Good for her though, maybe some day I will worry about speed, right now I just worry about not killing over. :)

  • I don't think we are, but I'll add you!

My friend makes a little sick sometimes with her running speed training and clean eating...grr.   I'm with you on just trying not to die!

Not sure if you are into blogs but I'm totally obsessed with this blog

www.keepingupwithkatie.com  She lost 50 lbs and just did a dualthalon (sp?) 2.5 mile run, 30 miles bike ( or some crazy number), and a 2.5 mile run.  Kinda inspiring, but I love reading about peoples successes and what works for them!

  • Cool, I check out Katie. I read Ben Does Life. http://bendoeslife.tumblr.com/ Watch his youtube video, it is so inspiring.
