Ashley re: grad school

I'm thinking I want to wait until I'm doing having kids and they're all at least a bit self-sufficient. So, we're looking at 7-10 years probably.

Right now I am 80% sure I want my masters in healthcare administration and there is a local university that has an online program. But, I do want to make sure my boss endorses that program before I do it. Even if I didn't stay here after I got my MHA, he is well connected and respected in the state as a great administrator and if he thinks I went to a dumb program, other people likely share the same opinion.

Luckily....that program is an 18 month program...that you can stretch out up to 7 years. Suh-WEET!

Re: Ashley re: grad school

  • You are smart to wait until the kid(s) are older.  That's one reason I did mine now.  I knew once kids were in the picture, I was much less likely to do it.  The district I work in requires all teachers to get a masters within 10 years of their hire date.  I'll have mine in 4, go me!

With that being said....online is fantastic.  It takes a lot of self-discipline because there are so many days, i want to go home and relax but I have to write papers or read textbooks.  It's annoying.  What I love about it though is I can do it at my pace as long as things are turned in when they are due.  I love that because often what I end up doing is working on 1 class and getting really far ahead, then I move on to the next, and then the 3rd.  I just sort of cycle them.  They of course overlap some but it keeps me sane to be able to focus on one class at a time.

The down side.  I kind of miss face-to-face instruction at times.  There are just some things I wish I had lectures instead of lecture video's for.  Overall, I've had a good experience.  I had one nasty prof but she left the program in December (THANK GOD) and this last semester has been MUCH more enjoyable!

It really is worth it no matter what I said, lol.  I'm just so ready to be done!  I want to watch TV, read my kindle books, have friends over, exercise, and all of the other things I haven't done since school started!
