Recs for chinese restaurant in chinatown?

twice I've eaten at separate chinese restaurants in chinatown and twice I've gotten food poisoning. since then, I've not been back to chinatown for chinese.

now my sister and BIL are in town and they would like to go to chinatown and consume chinese food.  any recs?  I'm sure I just got unlucky, but I don't want to take them to a crappy place.

also, they have a 2.5 yo and a 7 mo old so we would need someplace kid friendly.

Re: Recs for chinese restaurant in chinatown?

  • There was (maybe still) a place called Chinatown Express.  They had a guy pulling noodles in the window.  I only ever had noodle soup there (delicious) but never food poisoning.

However, I would recommend chinese outside of chinatown as a more delicious alternative (Oriental East in SS or ....gah....that restaurant in Rosslyn...I can't remember the name right now)

  • In Chinatown, I like Tony Cheng's.

But, if I wanted really good Chinese food, I would had to Peking Gourmet Inn in Falls Church. SO worth the trip - yummmmm.

We go to Peking Gourmet with the ILs, and often with my nieces, who are 4 and 6.  It's so loud in there, any kid-produced noise goes unnoticed.  I would make a reservation if you go there though, it's usually mobbed.

  • thanks for the recs!

unfortunately, trekking out to the FC/other burbs is not in the cards.  chinatown was picked in part for it's proximity to other stuff.  we'll be staying within the diamond on this trip.

EVERY time I eat at Chinatown Express I have stomach problems!  ugh.

I've had better luck at Full Key... at least with regards to my stomach not acting up...
