s/o Registry... did you peek?

Wayyyy back when lol did you peek at your registry?  Did you do it to see what you were getting, or to try to narrow down the date of the shower (if it was a surprise) or what?

Don't lie Wink

Also, how many had engagement parties and/or showers?  Just curious how many times you had to stalk the registry.

Re: s/o Registry... did you peek?

  • OMG I was the worst registry stalker ever!  I was checking that thing every day, even several times a day before my shower (had one, and I knew the date) and before the wedding.  The funny thing is that I used to make fun of friends who were registry stalkers.

This is terrible, but I miss stalking enough that I actually stalk my friends' registries.  Not as much as I did my own, but still I'm weird like that.  I can't believe how many people don't shop until the day before the shower.  I probably used to be one of those people but now I'm one of the first to buy off the registry as I now know how excited it makes registry stalkers to see something bought.

I totally checked my registry all the time to see what we were getting. I just wanted to see what we were getting. I already knew the date of my shower due to work schedules and me having to travel.

We had an engagement party but we hadn't registered yet so I didn't get to do any stalking then.

  • Every.single.day.  GAH!  I told myself I wouldn't look, but I couldn't help it.  It was like a game to me because I did it just to see what we were getting and tried to figure out who got what.  I had one shower that I knew about so that wasn't a surprise, but then we had a surprise shower from C's company which was super sweet and so unexpected.

  • I didn't look at it until pretty late in the game, and then when I did and Lance found out he was p!ssed. I had a shower in September but it was a pampered chef shower, so most people purchased things that day that I had on my list, or gave money for me to pick my own things out.

I definitely stalked more once the wedding got closer, I miss those days!

  • My first shower was a complete surprise, I had no idea it was happening, but I did notice that things were flying off my registry because I checked it DAILY. I kept thinking that maybe people were just really good at planning ahead, since I knew about my shower in August. DH went along with it, hah.

Before my 2nd shower in August I was really good and just would log into my BBB one and look at the number at the top.

ETA: oh and I looked before the wedding a lot because I wanted to make sure we got everything that was bought. and I was trying to get early gifts a thank you card out before the wedding when possible.

  • We had an engagement/house-warming party in August 09 since we got engaged June 13, 2009 and purchased our home June 15, 2009.  We had it at the new house, big backyard tent party with kegs so nothing gift-worthy.. we thought!  We ended up getting a ton of stuff that I had put on our registry (yeaaaa this is when we registered for the fun, ridiculous stuff like the waffle-maker, mini deep fryer, random things like this - that we ended up getting! lol) but I didn't tell anyone about it.. clearly this was before I knew people hunted down a registry.

Once I re-registered for the shower for actual items we needed, I didn't look at it anymore.  I was afraid I'd get upset if nothing was off the list yet.  It was also a surprise and EVERYONE was making such a serious effort to keep it from me and/or throw me off that I would have felt terrible if I ruined it.

     And just for sh!ts and giggles;

This was totally me. I stalked All. The. Time. Before my shower (that's how I knew I was getting two stick-blenders for my shower - awkward - they were bought off of both registries), and every day leading up to the wedding.

  • Before my first shower (I had 2), I looked once.  Then after that I limited myself to once a week (every Monday), to check on inventory and that stuff was in stock.

  • I checked it every single day, many days more than once.  I even went to the beach for a long weekend with my Dad and sister, and called Jason to have him check it for me lol.  My shower was a 'surprise' but I was able to figure out when it was so I knew it was coming up.  I was surprised how many people bought stuff last minute.  My shower was at 3pm, I last checked the registry at 11am, and then got stuff at my shower off of the registry.  Same with the wedding...I checked it the morning of the wedding at 5am, the wedding was at noon, and when we opened our gifts later, we had new stuff from the registry.  I miss stalking it and sometimes still go back to look, 'just in case' something happens to get purchased lol.  This actually happened right around Christmas time which was a nice surprise.

  • I checked mine a lot, it never seemed like enough was bought off of it.  I did it under the disguise of checking for out of stock items and to see if I needed to add more.

  • I tried to stalk.  We registered at a fabulous local kitchen store that is terrible at updating its online registry :(

My MOH is getting married in July this year and I stalked hers for her engagement party and am going to stalk again for her shower lol

  • I totally stalked. I stopped a few days before the shower, but then Alan picked up the slack. He'd always let me know when something was purchased, but he wouldn't tell me what.  Which meant I looked it up myself, and then felt horrible.

But only for a minute. Besides, I totally forgot everything that had been bought at the shower and didn't know who had bought what anyway, so it was all good.

  • I peeked for sure!  I mean, how could you not?  It's so easy!  But I like to think I wasn't as bad as I could've been!

My parents threw an engagement party for us, however, we asked them to put "no gifts please" on the invitations, so we did not receive any for that occasion.

I had a shower that my bridesmaids threw for me, and another shower at work.

I'm sure I'll stalk our baby registry, too...I might have already kind of started...but partly because I truly am still updating it!

I peaked to see what I was getting, but I set up my registry so I didn't know who purchased the gift.  I had two showers--on the the states thrown by my MIL for all the american guests, and one in Canada thrown by my aunt for just family.

I still have my registry and our parents have asked for us to leave the stuff on it so they know what to buy us for Christmas, birthdays, etc.
