moms of curly haired girls

I know this has been asked before but Ava and Aubrey both have slightly curly hair (not beautiful ringlets like Katen and Maya) but I feel like I need to put something in it (especially Ava's) to bring out the curls instead of trying to fight them. I noticed when it was rainy yesterday that Ava's curls were much more obvious and with the humidity coming, I'm sure that will continue to be the case. Do you have a product that defines the curls without weighing their hair down? (Ava's hair is SUPER long anyway).. Also, do you just use a wide tooth comb when you comb it after bath?

  • We use Mixed Chicks products.  It does a good job at defining curls and it's super light.  Her hair can still be a hot mess after naps and on humid days, but I haven't found anything that works better.  It's great for not just ethnic hair like Maya's.  I have some natural wave and have used it as well.

And yes, I only use a wide tooth comb and only when it's wet.

This exactly.  I use it on my curly hair and Maddie's too.  It's fantastic!  I don't know if you can get it locally, I order it online.

Mixed Chicks is good stuff! I have fine curly hair and I have used it for myself. If you don't want to weigh it down, you could probably just use any lightweight leave-in (spray conditioner/detangler is easy), comb it with a wide comb, and then leave it alone to dry. The tendency is to mess with it and whip it into submission, but curls look best when left untouched to air-dry.  My daughter is still a baldie but I know we'll end up in your shoes here soon--H is curlier than me!
