I just tried to talk Mike into an impromptu weekend in Chicago. Instead he offered that we can go to Romence gardens to talk to them about sod and lawn care.

Here is a clicky for those not at work: Price is Right losing horns
Re: My consolation prize...
LMAO....
A year ago, I planed a 'surprise' weekend getaway for Brian. What it was, I really want to go to the Henry Ford Museum so I planned a getaway without telling him because I've been telling him for years that I wanted to go and I knew he didn't. I met him for lunch that Friday and was going to tell him. I was asking the girls here, how I should surprise him with the news and that I didn't want to make that big of a deal about it because I didn't want it to go like this.
Me - "Guess what honey?? The kids are going to my moms because I planned a romantic getaway for us. Ok, are you ready for this....we are going to.....Southfield!!"

Sorry your weekend to Chicago didn't workout. Can you at least do a date night.
I'm sure we could do a date night. It is actually a horrible weekend for us to go away. My SIL is about to give birth any second and his grandma's birthday dinner is on Sunday. I was just feeling impulsive and wanting to eat fast food in a car - ya know - road trip stuff!
Love the story about your romantic getaway to Southfield. Mike has been wanting to go to the Henry Ford Museum for forever. He would have be so excited.
Ha! That's funny Hoektastic. I don't think a discussion about sod is much of a compromise! Hope you're able to enjoy a date night though.
I really want to go to the Henry Ford Museum too, but my husband isn't very interested. Maybe I'll have to plan a romantic getaway to Southfield. Oh, we could combine it with a trip to Ikea! He loves Ikea. Southfield + Canton = ultimate romance.
If you go check out their website for hotel packages. We stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott in Southfield for $69 and got 2 set of two pass for the "Henry' ,meaning the musuem, village or auto plant tour. I believe that was a $60 value, so bascially we paid $9 for the hotel room.
We went to the Detroit Zoo on that Sat and then the musuem the next day.
LOL! That is a bummer though. I love Chicago.
It's nice that you have the option for impromtu weekend getaways...maybe the next one will work out!
My Mike works every Saturday so impromtu weekends away are pretty much non-exsistant.
Swoon. Throwing in Ikea just takes it to a whole new level. Why don't more people do this for a honeymoon??
I feel you on the Saturday work thing. When I was in retail, I had only 10 weekends a year. It was the pits. We were able to cobble together a few mid-week "weekends". Which are not too shabby. Wednesday/Thursday in Milwaukee is pretty fun.
We are finding now that I don't work weekends and we live back home, we have less time to ourselves. A lot more family obligations. Starting next weekends we have 5 weeks in a row of family events on his side. I think my head is going to explode.
Oh, and if you're in Dearborn to see Henry Ford or Greenfield Village, also check into the Henry Ford Estate, which is just north a short drive. It is a really beautiful building, the Pool Room Restaurant is pretty (think afternoon tea) and the grounds are great. They even have nature trails in the back & you can walk through the sugar bush where they used to tap trees to make maple syrup. When I lived there (single white female) during my internship, I spent a lot of time at this property because I could walk around safely for free & get out of the concrete jungle. It too, was very pretty at Christmas time.

ARGH. After all that, they just closed it to change ownership & do a big restoration. I'm sure glad I was able to take my mom to the Pool Room last summer before they could close it!
Ooo! When it is finished, I second this. Especially in the summer when you can see the gardens/grounds too.
