What was your favorite nickname growing up? Least favorite?

Re: S/O Names & Nicknames..

  • My favorite was probably Nifer because it's fun/different, but only 2 people used it (though they still do. haha).

Least favorite is probably Jen Burger. Although it was coined by a rather large fellow, soooo I took it as a compliment.

  • The only nickname I really had was from my papaw, he called me punkindoodle. It was cute. I hate when people call me BritBrit.

  • My mom and my little brother both call me JoJo, I love it but they are the only people allowed to call me that.

A boy in school called me Jedi. I guess if that's the worse I got it's not too bad.

  • Rai is my nickname because when I was ten, my fellow church-goers decided "Rhyannon" was too complicated.

My sister calls me Noni and she and DH both call me "Stingray" when they feel like I haven't been annoyed enough that day

  • JodiBodi, Grasshopper Legs and Petunia were nicknames my parents used.

I didn't like Grody Jodi and Jodi Commodie.

Nor did I like "frog", which is what one of my brother's t-ball friends called me.

Uhh, this is actually pretty cool.  YesGeeked

  • My mom calls me Sis (she calls my sister that too) which is fine.  People called me Jiggy for a while, I was not a fan.
  • Favorites - my dad and most of my parents' adult friends have called me 'flaca' which means skinny since I was pretty young.  It was more appropo back when they started calling me that but it stuck.  Both my parents call my sister and me 'picha' which is short and the feminine form of 'pichon' which means little bird and it's a term of endearment.  My grandpa used to call me his 'corazonsito' which means little heart.

Hated - I got called Pinocchio a few times in elementary school because of my big nose.

Nicknames are so much cooler when they're in other languages.

  • My Dad called me Noodles, but now calls me Anj (my name in German class was Anja). Most family and close friends call me Ash or Ashes.

  • I've been called all kinds of nicknames.  D, Dani, Nellie, Sissy.   I HATED Dani when I was younger b/c I have an uncle Danny....so that was a boy's name and I didn't want to be called a boy.  thankyouverymuch.  But, I don't care anymore.  My nephew calls me Auntie Dani sometimes and it's the sweetest.  I didn't care for Sissy so much either when I was younger.  My brother and sister still call me that.

I also had mean names b/c some kids are cruel.  And I apparently needed to be punished for having a big nose or being too skinny and lanky.  So, Pinocchio, Clown (curly hair AND a big nose), Spoon (head on a beanpole), or just plain Big Nose.  Ya, those were nice.

  • Awww I love "Dani". It's probably because my aunt diane was "Aunt Danny" after being butchered by my cousin. My cousin's kid who is just so sweet she melts you in a puddle is Daniella, and she is Dani or Dani-doo to most everyone.

  • I never had a nickname from peers growing up. My first name doesn't really lend itself. I had a few teachers when I was at University Christian call me Duncan Hines, but that's because all the teachers were coaches and unable to actually address you without a nickname. Mostly I just got called Duncan.

My mom's dad called me Distee, and I had no idea what it meant or why until I found it online a few years ago. It's a style of antique porcelain with Dutch scenes and thistles on it, and they'd mark it "distee" or "distle" which is Dutch for thistle.

Crazy occasionally called me Soshua (my brother's name is Joshua), which really made me mad, since I was older, and later Sushi, or Soosh.

  • When I was in high school, my boyfriend's mom called me Dani.  I think it's what broke me from disliking it.  She is from the Dominican Republic, the way she said it sounded so pretty.
  • DH and my BF call me Kris, in middle school my friends dad started calling me Smurf because I was really short and that stuck for a while.  My dad has always called me MOS (mouth of the south).  None of them really bother me, though it is like nails on a chalkboard when MIL calls me Kris.

  • I don't think I really had any nicknames. My ex-bf used to call me Lee-Lee.

My parents have a parrot that likes to say my name in a long drawnout singsong kind of way. People used to imitate him a lot, but it was still my full name.
