Is anybody's dog safe?
My goodness there is a trend around here lately! It's like the warm weather encouraged all the sh*tty dog owners to come out and play.

We have a neighbor whose dog jumps fences (yes, 6 foot fences) and part of our fence is only 4 feet. It jumps our fence at least twice a day to play with Rusty. If it wasn't nice, I would be concerned - however, I'm more concerned about it being hit by a car and they don't exactly watch the dog all the time, unlike me where I'm outside all.the.time with Rusty.
And I've just decided not to go to the dog park as often anymore. There's a dog named Clyde that Rusty has had a run in with on too many occasions where the owner hasn't done anything nor jumped in to help that I'm over the dog park. We go in the afternoon when no one is there or I move Rusty to the small dog park side where no one goes so he can chase squirrels.
I think people (and dogs!) have been cooped up all winter and now it's like a bunch of dogs with spring fever are out and being naughty, not to mention many owners suck.
We've also cut way back on the Bloomington dog park - last trip we were there a woman's african boerbol attacked a friend's dog, and the trip before that, a different man's two african boerbols attacked Jenson. The woman who's dog attacked my friend's dog didn't say anything to my friend which was frustrating. The man who's dogs attacked Jenson actually had the nerve to tell me that I needed to take my dogs home because his dogs "don't like small or young dogs and gets aggressive with them." - I was pissed and told him that if his dogs aren't safe, he needs to muzzle them or not bring them at all - that I shouldn't have to take my dog home from the off-leash park because his dog has a problem with other dogs. He completely dismissed me and my concerns, ignored me, and I had to take my dogs home so they weren't injured. Other people told him that it wasn't cool, but he didn't care so we all had to just do our best to stay away from him.
I feel like spring for dogs/owners is like January at the gym. Everyone goes gung ho, but then it calms down.. or at least I hope that is the case.

We only go to the dog park during off times and even my well-exercised, super calm dog has been a bit naughty at times. With the snow gone, her nose has gone into hyper-sniff mode.
She's doesn't care about other dogs; she just wants to follow scents instead of me. I put her right back on the leash if she isn't listening well though.
We've run into some terrible dog owners lately, too. I agree- I think there's just a big rush now, then hopefully it will calm down.
We live in an apartment complex, and it just amazes (ok, disgusts) me how little concern some people have for the way their dogs behave. And the amount of dog poop in our yard now that the snow has melted? It's awful.
I usually take Puckett out to go to the bathroom on a flex lead so he can run back and forth a little in the yard. BUT, the second I see/hear someone coming, he gets tightened in close to me (definitely less than the normal 6 feet, too.) If we know we're taking him for a walk through the park, though, he only goes out on the normal 6 foot leash.
There have been some horrible owners at the dog park recently, too. We actually stopped going for a few weeks. Thankfully all the 'normal' dogs and owners were there again this week when we went. It's nice when I 'know' them, and I know Puck will avoid the little white one that hates him... or that the other owners know Puck splashes in the water sometimes and they don't get super pissed about it.
