New car

I've been in the market for a small SUV, mostly because of the crappy winters up here.  I was driving an 05 Hyundai Elantra.  It was horrible to drive in anything but ideal weather conditions.

I ended up getting a leftover 2010 Suzuki Kizashi.  http://www.suzukiauto.com/ I never heard of the car until yesterday.  But it's pretty nice for the money.

We originally went to the Suzuki dealership to look at their crossover.  Definitely, not my style.  It looks sooo unsafe if you were to get rear ended.

Anyway, the Kizashi I bought is All wheel drive.  You can turn it on/off with a push of a button, but automatically turns on if driving conditions are unsafe (hydroplaning, etc).  You can get it strictly front wheel drive if you prefer.  It's got a lot of nice extras that come standard that I wasn't expecting.

We got a great deal because it was a 2010 leftover.  I got the extended warranty for the life of my loan & GAP coverage and the monthly payments are still less than what I was paying on the Elantra.

Definitely check this car out if you're in the market.

Re: New car

  • Nice!  I am looking for something smaller with better gas mileage than my Jeep Grand Cherokee.  I forsee many decisions in my near future.  :P

  • Doesn't just about every vehicle get better gas mileage than your Jeep?

Does your next whip need to be an SUV or are you thinking about a car?

  • Ha!  Yes.

I would love to keep the roominess of the SUV, but definitely need something small sedan size.  I've been eyeing the new Jetta (esp. the price and warranty), but am not sure if that's the way I want to go.  I need to actually go test driving this weekend.

  • I briefly checked out the Jetta.  The price is great!  But, I was looking for something that would be good in the snow & AWD isn't an option on the Jetta.

I think Kathy has a Jetta.  I've been hearing a lot of complaints about unreliability on the newer VW models too... just an FYI.

I have a Jetta and I hate it.  I have always been a VW fan, but after this car I vow to never buy one again.  While the issues I have had have been small, they are still annoying.

I should take a picture of my radio and post it online for you.  All the plastic has peeled off due to the heat.  And my headliner?  It has fallen and VW wants a buttload to fix it since it's "special" canvas.  I am going to take it to a place down the street from me and have them fix it for $150.  And my windshield wiper fluid thing has only worked for about 5 minutes since I owned the car, despite the fact it has been fixed FIVE times.  I gave up trying to get it to work when the warranty went out.  Also, the check airbag light is permanently on even though nothing is wrong with it.  The sensor is bad.  VW has a recall on it but I don't feel like driving 2 hours round trip to spend my day at the dealership to get it fixed.  One day soon I will.

Oh, and oil changes?  It probably would be different in Tampa, but other than the dealership (again, 2 hours away round trip) there is only one other place in my area will change the oil.  While I will admit, there are VERY few VW in the area, it seems like it's a hassle to find anyone to work on it.  I guess the newer engines in VW are a pain to work on and nobody wants to deal with it.

Another complaint I have is the AC.  I takes me 15 minutes for my air to cool down.  It no joke blows hot air for 15 minutes.  It's extra nice driving down the street with the windows open with my headliner flapping the breeze.  At least the baby thinks it's funny.  I have taken my car to an AC repair place locally and they said everything is running fine :|

Ha.  As you can tell I have my VW.  It's a 2007 and I have been the only owner.  I shouldn't be having these many issues, ya know?  While they are little and nothing major, they have really caused me to be displeased with the car.

My dad just traded in his VW Passat last week.  He hated that car too.  But his has major leakage issues through the back window and the backseat had to be reupholstered.  Not to mention, his engine had to be replaced at 30K miles.

So my advice is don't buy a VW!!

Congrats on the new car!  My next car is going to be an SUV.  Unfortunately, it will be a long time before I get another car :(  We just recently paid my off and it's nice not having a car payment.

But I have been eyeing the Land Rover LR2.  Actually, I really want a Range Rover, but no can afford.  I highly doubt my H will spring for the LR2, because it's still not the cheapest SUV out there, especially if I am not working, but I can't help but day dream about owning one.  I want it in white with black interior, please.

Thanks!  So far I love it!

My H wants a Land Rover too.  I've never seen the inside of one to have an opinion one way or the other.  From the commercial, it seems nice Smile  I am practical (read: CHEAP) & would never be able to bring myself to pay that much for a vehicle though.

The new car is white.  I wish it was any other color.  This makes the 3rd white car in a row for me.  Oh well.

  • Speaking of new cars, I want a Pilot so bad. But DH says I have to produce a 3rd child first before that's gonna happen. And he'd rather get a minivan as it's cheaper on gas. With gas prices right now, I think I'll be keeping my CRV for a while. The nicest thing is that it's paid off.

I completely agree.  I drove a Bug, but I had a lot of the same problems as many people are having with the Jettas.   My biggest complaint was everything was made with the cheapest of cheap plastic and it all broke by the time I sold it.  Don't get me wrong, I loved my Bug because of the novelty of it, but I would never buy another VW again.  Now I know they have changed the gas mileage since when I got mine, but it was terrible.  My van gets better gas mileage than my Bug did.  Crazy!

My husband is a big fan of the Pilot too.  I'm really sad that we are going to need to buy a new car (new to us anyway) for the move to KSA.  We have both of our cars paid off and I was not looking to spend money on a different car any time soon.

  • We'll have to check it out.  We are looking for a new car since mine isn't really "baby safe"!
