I thought I would make a separate post because I don't want the other girls to get tired of the baby talk and kick us out of the Nest. ![]()
I am a huge researcher and dork...haha. I want to know everything I can, so I have been spending a lot of time reading up on TTC. Most of the info below is from The Bump, Babycenter or random google search finds.
It seems the common thought is that fertility peaks at 24 and declines from there. It is crazy it is so young!
A lot of the articles online deal with how to get pregnant faster and that really boils down to knowing when you ovulate. Most of the articles mention taking your basal temp every morning (the lowest temp of the day, taken at the same time everyday when you first wake-up and keeping track of your (sorry this one is gross) cervical mucus. Basically the way it looks gives you clues as to what is going on. There are a ton of articles on Babycenter and The Bump about these two things.
An issue for me that may or may not be important to other girls is how my weight is going to affect my chances of conception and subsequent pregnancy. I am about 60 pounds overweight right now according to my BMI, I have recently lost 30 but I am still at a high risk for gestational diabetes during pregnancy. According to what I have read, being overweight alone does not hurt your chances of conception too badly, it only becomes a big factor if you have other issues (blocked tubes, a condition such as PCOS, etc.) This was suprising to me as I always heard being overweight was a leading factor for conception problems. I learned someone my size needs to gain at max 15-20 lbs during pregnancy, which doesn't seem like a lot!
In that same vein I have also been reading up on what to eat during pregnancy and preg-friendly exercise. You can still walk, swim, stationary bike and do light weight training, which was encouraging for me. The diet is a basic healthy diet, just with more calories.
A lot of it is overwhelming to me and I think some people go to crazy overthinking the whole thing, but it is good info to know. I don't feel the need to get pregnant the very first month but understanding what's going on in my body does interest me. I don't know that I will chart/temp but I can see the appeal for girls who are big planners.
After spending so many years avoiding pregnancy, who knew it could be so much work to actually get pregnant?!?
Other girls who are in the baby camp - feel free to chime in.
Re: **Renee**
My hubby and I plan on trying in about 6 months, and I think I will definitely be a chart/temp person. But I schedule everything. Even thinking about any of it overwhelms me right now, I'm glad to see someone else out there understands......
After initially spending some time on the Bump.. that's exactly how I felt, and that's why if some of you remember I came on the TK to try to encourage those who were planning on TTC soon to start "doing their homework"...
Most of what you said your post is also what I came to learn in my research and found to be true. I am not familiar with the weight/diabetes aspects of it though, so I can't speak to that.. but DH and I were concerned about our age ( even though 31 is not OLD)... since we want to have multiple children ( hopefully 3 by the time we are done) we wanted to have as much knowledge up front as possible to be able to increase our chances each month, so that we don't waste time.
There definitely is a lot of information out there and a lot to learn, and it can be overwhelming but I tried to take it one day at a time and research every day and read.
I used the Bump, What to Except when you are excepting and before you are expecting books, and fertilityfriend.com. Taking charge of your fertility is also a good book. I also have done a lot of research on ovulation predictors too..
Best of luck..

Thinking about all this makes my heart beat fast. I know that some are going to be trying sooner than we are, but my main concern and curiosity is that we won't be trying for about 4 - 4 1/2 years. By that time I will be about 34 or 35 and at the age and my weight I can't help but be a little worried.
I am a planner and being a teacher I really want to have a late May or June baby. So, I guess I need to start figuring out when I should start charting so that when we are ready I know what I'm doing and we won't waste any time.
I'll give those suggestions y'all mentioned a look. Hopefully, they'll calm me down a bit. Thanks for the help!
