Sticks & Stones...Broken Bones
Have you broken anything? How and how old were you? Cast? How long was recovery? Can you still tell or feel it now?
If you haven't, has DH?
Re: Sticks & Stones...Broken Bones
I haven't broken anything either.
DH on the other hand, has broken a ton of bones (both collar bones, wrist, same foot twice, etc.. We onced counted I think he's had something like 9 casts. This is probably due to the fact that he refused to drink milk when he was little and has always refuses to eat veggies. At least that's what I tell him :O)
The worse was Senior year of highschool. He broke his foot during the first home soccer game and the team went to state. He was still injured and didn't get to play...then after the cast and boot came off, indoor soccer started and he broked the same foot during the first came of that, but a diff bone)

I broke my wrist at summer day camp when I was 7 or 8, and had my First Communion with a pink cast on. My grandmother sewed a pink ribbon into my white dress, and made a tiara with flowers and pink ribbons so the cast would match a little better...it still stuck out like a sore thumb!
I remember not crying about it until my mom got there to pick me up...as soon as I saw her, I lost it.

I should also note that I really wanted a broken leg when I was a kid (along with braces (never got them) and glasses (now I need them and hate wearing them!) - wth was wrong with me???).
Anyhow, I used to go to one of the neighborhood kid's houses and jump off of their trampoline to try to break my leg. It never happened.

I broke my wrist the summer going into sophomore year of high school during soccer practice. I knew as soon as I did it, but the trainer told us I would be fine. I went home. The next day I went to lunch with my grandparents and as we were sitting there my hand was turning purple green and yellow. Obviously it was broke. I had a white cast for awhile that everyone wrote all over and had to wear this huge foam padding to be able to play in the soccer games. It was cool though, because I came back from summer with a war injury
...only a few people knew I did it while running backwards and tripping over my own two feet haha
Mike has only broken his nose - again, a soccer injury.
Ha, I always wanted braces and glasses growing up!! I got braces, but still no glasses.

Good Lord Megan you were determined!!!
I broke my wrist when I was 4, I was sitting on a fence and fell onto pavement...seriously where were my parents. Frankly I don't remember much about it though except I HATED having the cast on since it made my arm so itchy.
DH however has never broken anything.
You're crazy!! haha I wanted braces baddd so I would straighten paper clips and wrap them around my teeth.. later on I got them for real. I also wanted glasses so I begged my mom to buy me the clear pair to wear at home.. later on I got them for real. Man.. I'm really happy I didn't want a broken leg!

I did the same thing with paper clips! I never got braces, and my teeth turned out straight. I'm thankful for it now, but boy, when I was a kid, I would've given anything to have them!
I also convinced my parents at one point (I was probably 8 or so) that I couldn't see well anymore. My dad took me to the eye doctor in the mall, and I remember walking to it and he asked if I could read a blue neon sign, and I pretended I couldn't.
Anyway, the doctor put glasses on me with two different lenses and asked which I could see better through. I picked one, and he put it over my head and stuck his finger through that side to show my dad that there was actually no lens there, and I could see just fine.
Do you see why I don't lie???

Wow! That is really disgusting!
I remember being SO jealous that my sister got a night guard for TMJ. Now I have one (my own - ha!) for the same reason, and avoid wearing it.

haha Megan! Hannah, that is pretty gross though lol
I broke my upper arm (humerus) 2 1/2 years ago (of my dominant hand). It was a triangular break, and was incredibly painful. Have I told the story here? I will give you the details, but will first answer the rest of your questions. I didn't have a hard cast. I had a soft cast, a compression brace, and sling. I was off work for 6 weeks (I was a trainer at the time, and can't really train people how to make lattes if I can't pick up the steaming pitcher), and then had physical therapy for an additional 6 weeks. It still hurts periodically, and I have a bump over that area where the scar tissue is (not noticeable to the eye, but you can feel it if you run your hand along my arm).
So here's how it happened. (I'm pretty sure I've told this story to some of you before. Sorry for the repeat.) I kept my alarm clock on my dresser, which was about 2 feet away from the foot of my bed. I did that so I would have to get up out of bed in order to turn if off. But instead of getting out of bed, I discovered that if I scooted down to the foot of my bed and got on my knees I could reach across and turn it off, and then lay back down. So one morning my alarm went off and I proceeded to turn if off in that fashion. But as I reached across I lost my balance and fell upside down in between my bed and my dresser, landing on my arm, with my arm behind me. When I sat up I didn't see my arm, and at first I thought it had fallen off. I remember saying out loud, "Where is my arm?" Then I that it was dangling behind me, so without thinking, I grabbed it and pulled it to my front. It went "Pop, pop, pop!" But the adrenaline kept it from hurting. I put my robe over one arm, woke my room roommate up, and had her drive me to the hospital. It was seriously the worst pain I've ever been in. They were giving me morphine every 30 minutes. As horrible as the whole experience was, I have very fond memories of that time as well. I stayed with my parents for the first couple of weeks, as I couldn't even dress myself. My mom took great care of me, and it kind of felt like I was a kid again. All of my church friends brought us meals every day. I wouldn't wish to go through that again, but I do admit that the attention was really nice!

I've never had A broken bone, I chipped my 5th metacarpal tho (the pinky palm bone) at a Halloween party I was at in High school, lucky i was holding one of them cap guns so it took most the damage and just left me chipped. I had to drive home from this party too which HURT trying to shift... and when I got home my dad who is a radiologist tells me oh your fine go to bed will take you to the Er in the am...and again made he made me drive my car to take us to the er. They didn't cast it or anything but they did splint it...
Lucky It wasn't my leg...
when the weather changes my hand kind of throbs. not nearly as bad as back does now from surgery.
I am such a dork, I always wanted braces or a retainer. (Don't ask me why, I think I was crazy!) I used pretend that I had braces by unbending a paperclip and I would put it in my mouth over my teeth. I would do it all day... I was such a dork as a kid!
I wanted head gear.
I have cracked or chipped several bones in my fingers and toes, and even part of my jawbone, but I had never broken a major bone until last year. I was out for a run and there was a construction crew in our neighborhood, blocking the way to my usual trail, so I got the bright idea to run down the hill in front of the trail, which was very muddy. My right leg went behind me, and my right foot twisted inward, while the downward force dragged my left leg and the rest of my body on down the hill. I heard the popping sound and I thought it was a ligament tearing, but I knew I was badly hurt, so I reached for my cell phone to call Ron.
Nice...the one time I forget to take my phone with me...
So I sat on that hill in the cold and wet until I gathered the strength to drag myself back up the hill on hands and knees. I used a park bench to pull myself back to my feet and then proceeded to drag myself, slowly and painfully, a block back to our house, trying (and failing miserably, I might add) to keep the weight off my bad leg. I looked like something from "Night of The Living Dead", all covered in mud, dragging my leg behind me and stumbling all over the place. No wonder the construction crew didn't approach me to offer help...@$$holes.
My ankle swelled to unbelievable portions almost instantly, but we figured it was either a ligament tear or just a very bad sprain, since I could still move my foot around,so we went to bed and figured we'd go see my doctor in the morning. By morning, my toes were going blue because the swelling was cutting off my already limited circulation, so off to the ER we went. I remember Ron and I both telling the ER doc that it had to be a sprain because I never broke bones. We were shocked as hell when the doc came back and told me I had broken my ankle right at the end of the bone where it meets your foot. I wore a hot pink cast and was on crutches for 10 days, and then moved on to a walking boot. It sucked out loud and I don't recommend it to anyone!
First, I had braces and glasses and think you girls who wanted them are nuts.
The only thing I've broken is my baby toe. I slammed it into the leg of the couch one morning while I was stumbling to open the patio door blinds. No cast or anything, just had to live with it. I also cracked a rib once from coughing really hard while I had whooping cough. That hurt. Again, nothing could be done for it, I just couldn't lift anything or be too active for a couple week.
Two summers ago, DH tore his Achilles tendon and had to have surgery. We were playing recreational softball and second bag wasn't attached properly and he slipped while running from 1st to 3rd.

TTC Since January 2011 - We have bad spermThis happened to me. I didn't break a bone, but I sustained a really bad hip injury from a fall in figure skating. My dad drove me to practice that day, so I toughed it out for him, but the fact that I walked (with a lot of help from the wall) to the locker room and to the car still amazes me. I laid on the couch when I got home and when my mom got home from work, I burst into tears and she took me to the ER. My poor dad felt awful that he didn't take me, but I didn't really let him know how bad it hurt.
I agree with this. If I had a picture I could post here of me in high school at time when I had both, you would all run screaming from your computers. Glasses and braces are a teenagers curse....I had horrible acne at the time too. I was socially doomed!
