Re: Blakely

Hi ladies! I'm a few days behind on posts but I saw that some of you were wondering about how Blakely has adjusted.

Overall, I'm really impressed with her reaction to James. She's curious about him but doesn't seem bothered by him at all. She tried to lick him and get in his face constantly in the beginning, but she's gotten much better about it.

DH and I have started working with her a lot more and establishing more boundaries. She's always been allowed to do whatever she wants, and once we got James home, it all became very annoying. She is no longer allowed to sleep in the bed (which she was ok with), and she is not allowed on the couch anymore (because I would be sitting there feeding James and Blakely would be all over us - so annoying!).

In another year or so, once James is more interactive and moving around, I think he and Blakely will be best of friends. :-)

We did the same thing with our dogs, they used to sleep with us and be on the couch. They had no trouble with it. Occasionally Bella will be up on the bed when we wake up, but she gets right down when we tell her to. I was suprised at how well Bella does with Emmy. Jack doesnt really like when she comes at him, so he just goes the other way. But he will come over to her and is always gentile. Makes it much easier on you when you don't have to worry about the dogs and the baby.

Glad to hear she is doing so well with the babe!

  • I'm glad she's doing so well!  If we ever have a baby, we're going to have to train Satchel to stay off the couch.  He definitely thinks he's a 75-pound lap dog!

  • My 2 are both so clingy, so even though they're small (11 and 13 lbs), we'll be starting early. Thet'll still be allowed up on the furniture like usual, but I am literally going to Toys R Us and getting a doll and teaching them to respect my space more when I'm holding it. We're also already working on Paulie's barking, and the progress we've made in 2 weeks is amazing.

what are you doing for Paulies barking? Bella barks at anything and everything. She is afraid of everything so any time there is a noise she goes nuts.
