gym question...motivation needed

So, I joined 24 hour fitness back in January. I was doing great at going several times a week doing cardio and weights and actually have noticed a big difference in my body. Starting about 2 or 3 weeks ago, I've just been really unmotivated to go to the gym.

So, what keeps your motivation up? And my other question, are any of you members of 24 hour and live north that woyuld be able to workout after work? I could really use an accountability partner Tongue Tied I usually go to the parmer gym since its the closest, but am open to driving a little bit if it will get my butt up there!

Re: gym question...motivation needed

  • Good question! I need motivation, too.  If you were still around here, I'd say let's buddy up.  I have such a hard time getting motivated.  We're starting to plan a vacation for (hopefully) next month and that means a swimsuit.  Indifferent  I have the 30 Day Shred DVD that I've seen great results with in the past so I'm going to try to stick with that for the next month.

I also have a gym membership but I hate going.    To me, taking my gym clothes to work with me helps.  If I make it home then I know I'll never get there.   If you find some way to get/stay motivated let me know.   Good luck!

  • I definitely agree that taking my clothes with me to work helps big time!! Maybe I should attempt to do my 30 Day Shred video again. At least I would be doing something on the days I don't make it....I'm right there with you about the swimsuit issue! I've already discovered people hang out and have cookouts at the pool all the time. And I keep being invited Indifferent
  • I hate, hate, hate working out. Last year I got a Polar heart rate monitor, and it tracks the calories burned. I usually set a calorie goal  and I force myself to meet it when I'm at the gym. Even if I have to sit on a stationary bike and play angry birds, I have something tangible to meet before I allow myself to give up.
  • I work right by the Parmer one and go mornings for training 3 times a week, and do after work cardio 3-5 times a week.  I'll go with you!  I love working out with people.

The past few weeks have been rough.  Something that helps me is downloading new music, or a new book that I can take with me.  There'a trail near the Parmer one too, we could work out outside, it's been gorgeous!

  • I've had the same issue, but I'm trying to get back on track. I packed my clothes and was going to go to the set class at parmer at 6:30 today if you want to go then.
  • I was totally not motivated to go to the gym until it started to be a habit, then I started enjoying it.

Do you track calories or exercise? Part of my motivation came from tracking. If I knew that at the end of a workout, I'd be able to give myself 4 or 5 WW activity points, I'd look forward to it more.

Also, I take a spin class a couple of times a week. It took some time to find a class I like, but I actually look forward to going to it because I like the teacher and the music (and adding those activity points at the end of the day). Maybe try to find a class. Part of what keeps me going on days when I don't feel like it is that I can tell myself that class is only X amount of time. I can bear 30 or 40 minutes of exercise.

When all else fails: 4 WW activity points = a 5 oz glass of wine. And there's  what really keeps me going. I want my evening wine.

I actually can't tonight Sad otherwise I would completely be there!

I think part of my problem is I've been working longer hours at work again, and have actually had a lot going on, so I'm just too darn tired to make myself go especially when I'm starving when I leave work - I just want to go home and eat lol.

I'm not really tracking anything, just trying to make an effort to not eat as much as I was. I tried tracking a little bit, but I start really stressing myself out and it takes too much energy so I quit. Being by myself has really made me get lazy. Embarrassed

Sounds great!! Hopefully once I make it through this week I'll be able to leave work at a decent hour again. Working in accounting during quarter end has sucked! I definitely agree about it being gorgeous outside!!! I completely love Austin during this time of year!

    Love this!!!

  • The new 24 Hour Fitness opened up in Pf....Beautiful facility! I have worked out with personal trainer a couple of times and now I am on my own and lost motivation! If I had someone to work out with,I think I would be more motivated,myself.....maybe early evening or,def.,mid-mornings,as I don't work out of the home?
